This year Election day is on November 8, 2022. Are you ready to vote?
With November fast approaching, many have begun to receive their ballots in the mail or are looking for local voting stations. Whether you are a new voter or a seasoned voter, we have all the information on the 2022 Midterm Elections.
What are the Midterms?
The Midterms are the elections that take place in between a president's four-year term. The midterms are often overlooked over a false pretense that they are not important, when in fact they are equally if not more important than the presidential vote that occurs every four years. During the Midterm Elections, voters submit their ballots to vote on Senators, state legislation, and many other important issues that may directly affect Coloradans' everyday lives.
This year's important legislature includes:
Colorado Governor's Race:
Current Colorado Governor, Jared Polis is running for reelection against Heidi Ganahl. The two candidates will determine the direction of Colorado’s State Politics for the next four years.
Senate Races:
Current Colorado Senator Micheal Bennett is running for reflections against Joe O’Dea. This will determine whether Colorado has a Democratic or split majority in the Senate.
Ballot Issue No. 5A and 5B
Ballot Issues No. 5A and 5B are at the forefront of many Douglas County School staff this year. Issue 5A, if passed, would raise district property taxes to help recruit adequate teachers and increase teacher salaries to compete with school districts in other Colorado counties.
Issue 5B similar to 5A, if passed will increase DCSD’s debt and increase district taxes. This will give the school district the ability to update current facilities, and improve security and safety alongside any improvements the district School board deems necessary.
Have questions on what you’re voting on? Take a look at Colorado’s Blue Book and Douglas County’s Tabor Book for more information regarding this year's election.
Am I registered?
Most registered voters have already received a ballot in the mail, but if you are planning to vote in person and are still unsure. To check for registration go to canivote.org choose Colorado, and then fill in your name, zip code, and birthdate to confirm registration.
Not registered?
Go to GoVoteColorado.gov. Registering will require you to vote in person.
If you have received a ballot in the mail, but would rather vote in person there are close polling places that would love for you to come and vote. Only attend a polling center if you have not returned your ballot in the mail. Northridge Recreation Center (8800 S Broadway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126) will be an open polling center until November 8th at 7pm, when poles officially close.
Good luck at the polls and remember every voice matters. GO VOTE!
