It is October, so you know what that means: Halloween! Since it is Halloween time we wanted to see how the students and teachers here at ThunderRidge celebrate Halloween. We were also curious what costumes students and staff are going to wear this year!
We interviewed several students from different grade levels. Starting with Nic Vicic (12) who is planning on doing something unlike anyone else: elk and deer hunting. Nic and his dad go hunting every year on Halloween since he was 5-years-old. Next, students, Marco Guardado (10) and Zach Smith (11), are going to a costume party. They decided to dress up as golfers because they both enjoy golfing together. They seem very excited for the day to come! Finally we interviewed Avi Edwards (12) who will be taking her younger sibling and his friends Trick-or-Treating! Her younger brother is dressing as a cowboy. Every year they go to the “big houses” to try to get as much candy as possible! Coco Albrecht (12), a foreign exchange student from Germany is wearing a purge mask with her friends and is grateful to be able to celebrate her first Halloween in America saying, “I'm so excited to see how Halloween is here because I have always seen it in movies and wanted to experience it myself.” Halloween in Germany is not a traditional celebration, but is becoming more popular. In Germany, Halloween is a holiday celebrated by adults at themed costume parties. Pumpkin Festivals are also a popular way to celebrate both the arrival of Fall and Halloween with the whole family.
Not only did we interview students but, we also interviewed Coach Carnes, a teacher at Thunderridge High School. He is taking his kids Trick-or-Treating while they are dressed up as a monster and Buzz Lightyear. After they are done Trick-or-Treating, he is going to be helping them separate their candies, “This is a tradition that we have been doing since I was a kid.”
Students here at ThunderRidge love to dress up and hang out with friends during this spooky season!
