This NFL offseason has been one of the most eventful we have ever seen. Between trades, free agent signings, and rule changes, the NFL will look like a different league. The most impactful changes came with major trades of some of the top players in the league. First, three all-star receivers were traded this offseason and all signed big contracts with their new teams. The trade was the Dallas Cowboys trading Amari Cooper and a 2022 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick and sixth-round pick. The Browns hope that Amari Cooper will be able to fill the void that Odell Beckham Jr. left when he was let go by the team.
The second major wide receiver trade was between the Green Bay Packers and the Las Vegas Raiders. After the resigning of MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, many anticipated another good season from Rodgers and Devante Adams but shortly after Rodgers re-signed with the team, Devante Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2022 first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick. Devante Adams is now reunited with his former college quarterback Derek Carr and hopes to carry over the success they had together in college to the NFL.
The final major wide receiver trade in the NFL was between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs sent all-pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks including a 2022 first-round pick. Tyreek Hill proceeded to sign a four-year $120 million dollar deal with the Dolphins.
The next group of major trades throughout the NFL is the major quarterbacks that now have new teams. The chaos began once the Green Bay Packers extended Aaron Rodgers. Many anticipated that Aaron Rodgers was going to Denver. Once he signed with the Packers the Denver Broncos decided to make a major move and acquire nine time pro-bowler Russel Wilson. The Super Bowl quarterback didn’t come without a price, as the Broncos gave the Seahawks two first round draft picks, four letter draft picks, Shelby Harris, Drew Lock, and Noah Fant.
Following the Russel Wilson trade, Carson Wentz was traded for the Indianapolis Colts to the Washington Commanders. The Colts received a 2022 second-round pick, third-round pick, and a conditional 2023 third-round pick. After the Colts traded away Carson Wentz, they went out and acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a third-round pick.
The final quarterback trade was between the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans. The Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in exchange for a 2022, 2023, and 2024 first-round pick along with two other late draft picks.
This offseason has been one of the most hectic ones we have ever seen. Major players have been traded and many have switched divisions which should make for an interesting season full of new teams and players. Many anticipate that the AFC West will now be the strongest division in the NFL and that we will see new teams making a run for the Super Bowl in this upcoming season.
