This years’ Trick or Treat Street was like M&Ms, Marvelous and Magnificent. Every year the students at ThunderRidge High School who participate in a club work really hard during the month of October to prepare for the flood of children wanting to get in some more trick or treating before Halloween on October 31st. Mrs. Bennet has run the event for as long as the students can remember and as she said, “They started Trick or Treat Street to be a community based event that would bring younger elementary aged kids together into the building to do something fun and creative and have a safe place for them to Trick or Treat”.
The set-up for Trick or Treat Street went very well this year and there were very few (and possibly none at all) mishaps that occurred. The set-up crew got to work right after school and had to finish their section before 5:45 when the teachers' kids started coming in. It was hard work for many of the people participating as they were doing a range of activities to set up. Some people were lining the walls with butcher paper, some people were getting into costume, while others were hanging items from the ceiling all to make their section look the best. However, in the end only one area could win, and the Ratatouille section that was set up by FNHS took the win.
Some clubs have a theme that they use every year with new people to hand out candy. The most notable of these clubs is probably POMS and Cheer who decorate their hallway in F wing to look like a fantastic storybook and dress up like the many Heroes and Villains of Disney Stories. Every year the “POMS Moms” come to help out with the decorations and make the hallway and the girls look amazing every year. This year Emily Aurora was dressed as a dalmatian from 101 Dalmation and she said “I was very excited to see how everything comes together this year with our new theme!”. However, just because the theme is the same every year, doesn't mean it's any less than the other themes as we say when POMS got 2nd place in the competition.
However, some themes change every year, Mrs. Bennett's Business and Marketing classes participate in this event every year, however, with every new class comes a new theme. For example, last year a favorite theme was The Jungle Book where the students worked very hard to make a throne that you could sit on, and an array of leaves and trees to decorate their portion of the hallway. This year, a class favorite was the Barbie theme, where this time students laid out a “pink carpet” rather than a red one and decorated the hallway as Barbie would. However, no matter the theme nor the students, the themes are always top tier and they never fail to amaze the rest of the school, and the children that come for the candy.
Trick or Treat Street ended up being an immaculate success! Every club here at ThunderRidge played a big role and gave all the kids an amazing experience and LOTS of candy. The costumes were perfect, the setting for each theme was fantastic, the children loved it! The group who played the role of ratatouille ended up winning the best theme, this means that they had the most votes for best costumes, interactions, and setting out of every group.
