Valentines Hot Takes

With Valentine’s Day coming to a close, we took the time to ask some of our peers and friends some hot takes to debate about this holiday. We asked many questions for people who are a couple and those who are single to find out what each person's thoughts and ideals were for their preferences on Valentine's Day. You will be surprised to see some of our interviewees' thoughts on the questions.
One of our hot takes for Valentine's Day is if you are in a relationship, do you have to ask your significant other to be your Valentine? We went around asking the people at our school to see what their thoughts were: Out of the 10 people we asked, 8 of them said yes including Charlie Spann(11), Nic Vicic (12) and Abby Gregg (11). The ones that said no were Mrs D’Aquila and Sierra Martinez (12). Abby said “Yes, because he shouldn’t just assume and should make an effort to ask me.” Overall we found out that you should still ask your significant other to be your Valentine even if you're in a relationship. So if you’re ever stuck or unsure, make sure just to ask to make them smile or just for good measure.
Another hot take that we wanted to know was what the best gift you could receive for Valentine’s Day is? Many people think the best gift could be simply a box of chocolates or something super extravagant, like a fluffy teddy bear. What we found out, though, was that the best gift you could give to a girl is flowers, or as Mrs. D’Aquila said, “anything tied to a memory, like a picture.” We also found out that most people do not care for a huge grand present; they just want something that is special and meaningful to them. If you are ever having a hard time finding a good present, give them something that will make them think of that specific time, or a collage of multiple different past times.
Our final hot take was if you are going on a date, is it better for it to be a surprise or would you rather know where you are going? Most people do not like surprise dates, but we had two students say that this would be the only day that they would allow for a surprise date like Abby Gregg (11). She also said that she would rather have a surprise date so that way she would not have to pick on where the date is located. Sometimes you and your significant other cannot decide, that is when surprises may be better, and this way you can do it with no questions asked. With this being said, people prefer planned dates, so you guys can both agree and find what works best for you and your partner.
If you're just celebrating Valentine's day with your friends you can go ahead and get dinner and throw a little party; possibly meet a new love interest. You can get each other a small gift and be able to share a fun time with them and do something that you both love.
With all of the Valentine hot takes everyone can have a better understanding of people's thoughts during this holiday. These debates might be able to help you plan for next year's Valentine. You can plan knowing what gifts people like and how they like to spend their night with someone on a special holiday.
