At the end of January, there was a 8mm by 6mm silver capsule that was very radioactive and could be potentially lethal that fell out of a truck. The capsule would be used for giving X-rays, but the capsule was being transported to a different hospital in Australia. It was made in Perth, Australia and was being transported to a city 260 miles north of Perth. While the truck was on the journey, the capsule fell out of the truck halfway through the drive.
People were prompted to not approach the capsule because it would cause serious burns if it came in contact with the skin. Within the first day, authorities advised people to stay inside and try to avoid a 20 meter exclusion area. The crews made several attempts to find the Radioactive capsule along the highway by looking for it by foot. On the 3rd day, the search crews decided to bring out the Radiation detective equipment, so it would be easier to find the capsule that is the size of a dime.
The people of Australia had been looking everywhere for this small capsule that is the size of a coin. The Australian Government has been looking as well alongside a remote highway in Brisbane, Australia. People do not know how it escaped its packaging and fell out of the semi truck carrying it. The search groups were looking everywhere alongside the Highway and couldn’t find anything in the first five days, but it was found on the 6th day of the search.
On the second day of February, the capsule was found. The capsule’s presence was noticed when the radioactive deduction equipment picked up radiation emitted from the capsule. The Australian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency were glad they found the capsule sooner rather than later. The Australian Prime Minister was glad no one was hurt and was thankful that those crews worked really hard to find this dangerous radioactive capsule.
