Kendrick Lamar is one of the most influential hip hop artists in the world and is dropping his new album soon. The world exploded once he announced his new album rumored to be titled “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” which is dropping May 13th, and will probably be out by the time this story is finished.
Every time Kendrick has dropped an album since Good Kid Maad City, which placed 2nd in the Grammys. He’s gotten a Grammy for every album he’s released since To Pimp A Butterfly, which is sometimes considered one of the best hip hop albums ever, and DAMN. It’s going to be the first album he’s released in 5 years after DAMN released in 2018 and topped the charts and went triple platinum, along with Good Kid Maad city which released in 2012. To Pimp a Butterfly was ranked at 16 of the most popular albums of all time by Billboard's top 200 and was certified platinum as well.
Kendrick has a website called oklama.com which is where he released all the info to his upcoming album, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. He released a grey folder on the website that said the album title (Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers), the release date which is on May 13th 2022, and saying that “All factual information for this release will come directly from this source only”. Then a weekish later he posted a new folder, which was black this time. When you open it, it shows a picture of disks, one named Morale, and one named Steppers. Behind the disks, is a thick book with the title of the album on it. People speculate that he’s releasing a 2 disk album, because he’s been gone for so long. That’s so far all the information that’s been released
On May 13th, the album was released and people have many mixed feelings. As people predicted, it is a 2 disk album with the first disk being titled Bid Steppers, and the second disk being titled Mr. Morale. This is Kendrick’s most personal album, with him talking about his childhood trauma throughout the album. At first listen, fans might be upset that there aren’t any “hype” songs on the album, but once you dive deeper and actually listen to what he is saying, you start to understand and appreciate the work of art that he put out. There is even a song called “We Cry Together” and Kendrick somehow made an argument between him and a girl yelling at each other into a song, and it’s actually executed really well and fits the theme of the album. “You could move on with your life, I swear to God”(Kendrick Lamar and Taylour Paige, We Cry Together)
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers is a work of art that Kendrick Lamar has put out, personally I believe it might be on course to win rap album of the year.
