Mr. and Ms. Grizz has always been a school gem. Though most people do not know what it is about, it is a great way to get a laugh after a rough week of school.
Mr. and Ms. Grizz is an exciting and entertaining senior talent show. The seniors are picked days before the performance, giving them only a few days to prepare. Each senior, usually ranging from eight to ten participants, has to prepare a lip sync and an individual talent. From card tricks to dances, each person comes up with something unique.
At the start of the performance, each participant walks down the side stairs while hyping the audience up. One senior, Emily Gardner, strutted down the stairs to the imperial march from Star Wars while wearing the Darth Vader mask. She pulled it off as she reached the stage and the crowd went wild. With an energetic entrance as well, Additiah Bahl killed the audience with his dramatic entrance and billowing outfit. After the constant onslaught of new and fresh entrances, the performance moves onto the lip-synching portion of the show.
Emmy Hill took the stage in stride. Wearing a wig and a fancy pastel green suit, she began an entertaining performance of “Earthquake” by Tyler the Creator. The crowd and judges ate it up. Screams and cheers filled the auditorium. It was not too far into the performance before phones were pulled out, waving with the flashlights on to the groundbreaking acting. The beat behind the music dropped and the crowd was unified in clapping to the beat as a bubble machine blew around Emmy’s feet. At the very end, she sat on her heels, arms spread wide, and a grin causing the audience to clap.
Another memorable lip-synch was Additiah Bahl once again. Laying on the stairs from the upcoming play, The Addams Family, the curtains pulled open to reveal him in a dress and leather jacket. The anticipation sucked in the crowd as he walked across the stage, calmly and focused as “Bad Romance” played over the speakers. Every eye in the auditorium was glued to him as he gripped the dress and whipped it away from him. Pants and a crop top covered in sequins overwhelmed the students and cheers broke out.
After the lipsynch’s came the separate talents.
A quiet intensity filled the auditorium as Nate Marxhausen rolled a deadlift bar out from behind the curtain. As he moved the weight, a piano was also being rolled out. Whispers broke out across the crowd in a wave. Curiosity clawed at those sitting in the audience as Nate sat down to play. The crowd settled as he played several snippets of Tiktok famous songs before leading into Kanye West’s famous song, “Runway”. With the constant buildup, Runway blasted over the speakers as he stood and approached the bar. The cheers from the piano had quieted as he braced himself to pick up 315 lbs, which is the equivalent of three 45 lbs plates on either side with the bar weighing 45 lbs as well. Glasses on, music playing overhead, and screams from the crowd brought a smile to his face before he placed the bar down.
Lauren Collins walked onto the stage with a guitar in hand. After taking a seat, she began to introduce what she would be doing. Lauren would be playing a self-composed song on the guitar. Silence filled the auditorium as she began to strum. After having an energetic entrance and lip-synch with several cartwheels she grasped the attention of the judges with a soft song. It took only a few seconds before several phones were out, flashlights on, and waving along to the song. After the quiet composition, the silence was broken by cheers.
At the very end the Mr. and Ms. Grizz are announced. Coming up to the stage for first and second place was Emmy Hill and Lauren Collins. Excited cheers and yells broke the silence as Lauren was crowned Ms. Grizz. She cheered, and jumped, and pulled Emmy into a hug with a smile. Soon after Ms. Grizz was announced, the Mr. Grizz walked on stage. Nate and Additiah stood side by side, facing the crowd. As Additiah’s name was read out, applause and screams greeted him. Flaring his arms out dramatically he took the crown and stood next to Lauren. The Mr. and Ms. Grizz had been crowned and now were going to help represent the Grizzly Family.
Mr. and Ms. Grizz is always entertaining. Bringing smiles to all who participate, whether it is sitting in the crowd or being up on stage. This senior talent show will continue as a staple in the Grizzly Gives week in upcoming years.
