As we begin the second semester of school, many winter sports begin as well. Lacrosse, being one of those sports, is in motion as athletes from TRHS prepare to hit the turf and compete. Their first game will be against St. Mary’s on March 10th, and 14 other games spread out from March to early May.

Lacrosse is a very physical sport, similar to hockey, with the main objective of scoring goals. Passing, shooting, defending, stealing, and many other skills are needed to be mastered to be a great lacrosse player. The players need to keep in great shape in order to play lacrosse, so it’s very impressive for athletes participating in lacrosse this year to do what they do.

As they finalize decisions for the team, we asked a player and coach about their upcoming season and how excited they are to compete for a state championship.

Coach: Mr. Stewart

Coach Stewart started playing in high school. A couple kids on his hockey team influenced him to play lacrosse because they said you get to hit more people and it's more aggressive. He also saw the University of Virginia play a game and thought it was a pretty cool sport. “This is the most talented team I taught,” he commented about this year's team. The team is looking to make a lot of noise this year, which is a promising sign. After having a losing record in prior seasons, he thinks the season will be a much better and improved team this year. Mr Stewert  been coaching other high schools in Vermont before he came to ThunderRidge and became the Lacrosse team’s head coach.

Player: Kyle Pattison

Mr Stewart influenced Kyle to play Lacrosse. He also has a lot of friends that play lacrosse, who thought he would have a fun time. Kyle thinks his team will have a good season. “We have the people we have the experience all we need to do is rally around each other so we can win!”,. As of now, Kyle is a sophomore, and hopes by senior year to be a totally better player.

As these students prepare for a great season, be sure to go support them at games, through fundraisers, and overall show your support for talented Grizzly athletes.
