Hello again fellow readers, it is day 7 of 15 of ThunderRidge Newspaper’s Advent Calendar Rankings. Today, we will be rating from best to worst classic holiday movies and see whether or not the older movies stand the test of time and if the newer movies compare to the classics. Also, be sure to stay tuned for tomorrow's ranking of when you should begin setting up for the holiday season.
Starting right away with the 1988 movie is Die Hard. This incredible movie follows John McClane as he deals with a terrorist group that has infiltrates his wife’s (Bonnie Bedilia) Christmas party. This movie has a score on Rotten Tomatoes of 94%.
2nd place belongs to the 1994 classic, The Santa Clause in which Tim Allen, playing Scott Calvin is pushed into the role of Santa Clause and how he deals with the upcoming Christmas and his own life. It is a fantastic movie and has a critic score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Up next is a surprising one, Gremlins, which follows a boy, Billy Peltzer, who gets a magical creature for his birthday and the consequences that this purchase causes on Billy and his family.
Fourth on the list is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with a 70% on the tomatometer. This movie follows Clark Griswold as he tries to give his family the best Christmas of their life.
And lastly, 5th place goes to the 1947 classic Miracle on 34th Street with an audience score of 87%. This movie follows Edmund Gwenn as he dresses up as Santa Clause and infiltrates a mall convincing kids (and adults) that he is the real Santa, it is a hilarious and heartwarming story that I would highly recommend.
Before we finish I would like to make a couple honorable mentions. First is Home Alone (top), a hilarious tale that follows Kevin McCalister as he defends his home from burglars. And last is How The Grinch Stole Christmas (bottom), a Dr. Seuss' story turned into a Christmas movie that follows a cynical creature called The Grinch as he steals Christmas from the quaint town of Whoville.
That finishes today's story of the greatest Christmas movies of all time. As you can see surprisingly the newer movies do rank better than most of the older classic tales. However, whether you enjoy the classics or the newer tales a Christmas movie is always sure to brighten your day, and another thing that can brighten your day is voting for these ranking stories on the form sent to all your Seminar teachers. That's it for today but make sure you come back tomorrow for another great ranking story.
