Alright readers, we are ⅓ of the way done with our ThunderRidge Holiday Newspaper advent calendar. Today, day five in our advent calendar extravaganza we will be ranking the best Christmas music and then of course, the worst. This time we will be taking a look at not only the audience's opinions on Christmas music, but also a look at what Spotify listeners' opinions are (in honor of Spotify Wrapped).
Starting off on a very surprising note with number one. For our school the number one song was none other than the classic “Jingle Bells” by James Pierpont beating out the second place song “All I Want For Christmas Is You'' by Mariah Carey, by one vote. According to Spotify, the #1 2022 Christmas song, again, surprisingly was “It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé with the Christmas Carol Jingle Bells not even placing in the top 100. “All I Want For Christmas Is You'' was #10 on the list with songs such as “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, “Merry Christmas” by Elton John and Ed Sheeran, and “Snowman” by Sia falling in between these two songs. However, before we close out, we have to mention the worst Christmas song this year. There are a few honorable mentions we would like to make. First is “I’ll Be Home For [Quismois]” by Camilla Cabello, and Maroon 5’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”. Now, the song ranked last on Spotify, and the worst Christmas song of 2022 goes to “The Little Drummer Boy” by Jessica and Ashlee Simpson. Personally, I believe that the worst Christmas song since 1979 has been "(Simply Having A) Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. The song has no melody. McCartney sings the same line over and over again for no reason (and the line isn't even a good line). But that is just my opinion, if you disagree or have any strong opinions on Christmas music be sure to fill out the Newspaper Google Form or meet with someone from the Newspaper class and ask for an interview.
Well, that closes out our 5th day of the ThunderRidge Newspaper Advent Calendar, and closes out a great year for not just Christmas music but music in general. Be sure to continue to vote on your favorites and tune in tomorrow to check out our rankings for the best and worst Christmas movies of all time!
