As winter quickly approaches, people around the United States prepare for the festivities, snow, and overall wonder awaiting in winter. However, one event in the United States should never be overlooked, and that event is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time of thanks, coming together, and overall gratitude. It should be celebrated as any other holiday.
We asked a few TR students about their experiences with Thanksgiving and what the holiday means to them. The responses we received from students vary from food, events, traditions, and many other ideas that are very unique.
Brayden Robertson (9) elaborated on why Thanksgiving is important to him: “I love the food. The stuffing is immaculate and turkey is my favorite part. I especially love the turkey leftovers.” Stuffing is a great addition to the turkey and adds great flavor and makes a fantastic aspect to a Thanksgiving meal. Plus, not all Thanksgiving foods can be eaten in one sitting, so adding the turkey or other items in meals to come is a great addition.
Jackson Freeman (10) shared his experiences during the holiday: “My favorite Thanksgiving item has to be the turkey. The colors of a turkey are just exceptional on the tail. Usually, we fly to Virginia to go see my relatives for Thanksgiving.” Thanksgiving is a great holiday to see family and make memories together. I love seeing my relatives on Thanksgiving as well, especially since Thanksgiving is a big holiday for coming together.
Dieuvenson Sorenson's (9) favorite Thanksgiving food is pumpkin pie. “It is nicely flavored, and it is sweet. I eat great food at home around the kitchen table.” During the Thanksgiving meal, he eats traditional food like turkey and mashed potatoes. Pumpkin pie, turkey, and mashed potatoes are headliners of the holiday, and are certainly a big piece to a fantastic meal.
Andrew Buffalo (12) has a very unique favorite Thanksgiving food. “My favorite Thanksgiving food would have to be ham. It’s tasty and just good food overall. I love family and gathering together during a meal for Thanksgiving.” Ham is definitely a unique food for Thanksgiving, as many would consider it a Christmas food, but ham is still very tasty regardless of time of year. A staple of a great Thanksgiving meal is eating and socializing with family, so it's great that Andrew is able to do just that.
It was great to see everyone’s responses and learn about the variety of traditions during Thanksgiving. Even though things may seem very different from traditional celebrations, it important to respect everyone and their traditions for this holiday of thanks. Whether enjoying a football game, catching up with family, or just overall enjoying the fading days of fall, Thanksgiving is fun for all involved.
