This is the first part of the making of the portrait. Firstly, we took a selfie and printed it out before tracing it over a piece of carbon paper to transfer an outline of our face and shoulders onto a piece of drawing paper. Honestly, I felt that that my photo looks a little weird and the outline didn't look like me at all... But it still looks relatively ok.
This is the outline of my face. I feel that it looks a bit off but still generally like me. Its the first time I have used carbon paper and I find it quite fun and very convenient. I never thought printing an outline of something onto another paper would be that easy.
After doing that, I traced out all the different components only a different piece of cardboard. Then, I proceeded to cut out all the different components. While cutting out the different components I realised that cutting the carboard is a very tiring and needs a lot of concentration to be accurate, especially for the smaller parts like the pupils and smaller lightings.
Next, I pasted all the components onto the piece of cardboard of my face. I found that the teeth makes the work look very weird so I decided to change it up a bit. And it works out just nice! Not going to lie but I think it didn't turn out so bad...
I proceeded to cut out some strips of cardboard after doing the hair frame. The strips was rather hard to cut as I kept overthinking and trying to make it into the exact shape i wanted it to be, which is hard as I'm not very good at handicrafts.
To add more details to the hair, I decided that using some random sand paper scattered around my house would be a good idea as it is black in colour and adds to the colour contrasts and gives a bit more colour to the hair.
After cutting out all the strips. I started placing them onto the hair frame to see how it would look. And honestly, it doesn't look that bad. It actually looks rather good and more like me now.
Then, I pasted the strips onto my hair frame. It was harder to paste on than I thought as the strips sometimes didn't fit properly and needed to be cut to fit the size or sometimes the strips were too short and needed to cut new strips.
After doing the hair, I started with the shirt. For the shirt I decided to make the red Lihua tee as it is an iconic t-shirt for a RVian to wear during festivals or on Fridays.
This is my design for the red Lihua tee. It looks ordinary but I think it represents something rather special to me as a RVian.
This is the final product. It is not the best but i feel that its good enough. It could be better though.
Praise - At the start of this project, I always thought that my artworks would turn out extremely badly as I have never had a talent in Arts and Craft. However, throughout this process of making this artwork, I have learnt that it wasn't that way and I actually did have some talent. It was just that I didn't have the patience to do the work properly. I have learnt that whatever I do, if I am patient and do my very best, I would be able to create something truly amazing.
Polish - If given the opportunity to do this again, I would have planned my time wiser instead of cramming everything towards the end, which made it very rushed and I wasn't able to try different things such as different hairstyles and even a different shirt design. I would also like to fix my hair a little as it looks a bit messy and the shape is a little off.
