MY SELF PORTRAIT
Today, we highlighted our features accurately. We also added tones to our faces to see the contrast, like shadows and parts that are brighter.
I traced out my facial features, highlights and shadows on my face on cardboard and paper. I traced my facial features on cardboard for them to be sticking out and to be more obvious on my face. For shadows, I traced them on beige coloured paper. For highlights, I traced them on white paper so that there is contrast.
I cut out my facial features, highlights and shadows to paste them on my face. I pasted the shadows first, then my facial features so that my facial features stand out more.
I drew my eyes on white paper and coloured my pupil black. I also added the highlights on my features. My face is done. What I find difficult during this process is that, at first it was hard to determine which part is the highlight and which is the shadow. Then it was hard to cut out the pieces on the cardboard as they were small and had complicated shapes.
I cut out the hair frame and hair piece today. I found it hard to cut the cardboard as the frame had a curved shape.
I met a few problems while making the hair. The first problem was that the hair pieces that I cut has wrinkles in the way that I don't want (as shown in the picture above).
The second problem I encountered was that the hair, after being cut, was not going in the direction I wanted. This was because I drew out the shape I wanted on the back side of the cardboard, therefore when I cut it out, it was the mirror image. Another problem I encountered was that I didn't know how to construct and put the pieces of hair together.
I decided to make another hair as the previous one was not very nice. After gaining experience from the previous one, I decided to use paper instead as it is easier to design it. Firstly, I cut out my hair shape, then I extended my hair at the ends. I also cut my fringe from the main hair piece. Using the small scraps from cutting the main piece, I added some baby hair and long hair at my hairline and my hair at the side. It was easier making this and it turned out nicer too.
For my second shirt, I used cereal boxes. I cut it into two to make it the base of the shirt and added the sides as the collar and pocket. I also cut out certain elements like the "secret" and the shape of the bear from the box to make the shirt look nicer.

Praise - After gaining experience from making my first hair and shirt, I decided to make a better one for each of it. I managed to improve my hair by using another material and adding in more details. For the shirt, I managed to include elements from cardboards intentionally to make the shirt look more pleasing. From this activity, I realised I became more detailed when I do stuff. I would try to include details to make my shirt and hair look more aesthetically pleasing.
Polish - If we ever repeat this process, I think that I can improve on my shirts. I should make it more intentional when it comes to creating designs on my shirt. I would collect different cardboards and to put them together to create a beautiful design. From this, I learnt that I should be more detailed and can improve in my skills of incorporating different elements into my shirt. I also learnt to be responsible of my work and to improve it when I need.
