I tried my best to outline my facial features and marked parts of my face that has shadows/lighter areas
I kind of messed up my hair as it looks pretty weird due to me rushing. (could have done better in that area). But all in all, I am pretty satisfied and amazed at how similar it looks to my actual self.
I put my blueprint into good use by tracing on it with carbon paper at the bottom, giving markings onto the cardboard which i then cut out. I was having troubles cutting it out due to the tight corners especially near my ears but I did my best not to ruin it that much and it turned out okay.
Now that I was done with the body, I was now able to decorate the highlighted spots on my 3D cardboard face. It was honestly pretty easy but very time consuming at times. At the end, I was highly satisfied with the results as it was not too bad.
The backing was very easily made and stuck to the head in a way that there was still a 1-2 cm gap for it to be stuck onto. Nevertheless, this was necessary as it was to support whatever that goes on it next.
An extremely crucial step that would lead to any facial portrait to be great would be one's hair. This was extremely fun and challenging to make as at one point, it did not even come close to what I was expecting it to be. I tried extremely hard for this and in the end, looked pretty decent.
Putting on the hair frame onto the backing, i'm honestly quite shocked that the 3d model was almost similar to my real face. I felt some resemblance and felt proud of my work. The one thing that i had to complain was that my hair was a bit messy from the looks of it.
This was arguably the hardest part for me. It was because I did not know how to trace and cut out the cardboard as the cardboard was black in colour, meaning that if i used carbon paper and track the cardboard, it was extremely hard to see the lines that i would be cutting. I was honestly not expecting much from this.
After dealing with the cutting of the cardboard, the rest was a breeze as I put some decorations all over the shirt so that it would not looks bland. I was glad that it was beautifully done.
This was my completed work as I did not come to school for the next art lessons due to me being sick. At that time, I was pretty satisfied with my work and called it a day. There was a sense of accomplishment flowing through me. From this, I learnt how to turn 'waste' materials into beautiful relief sculptures of our own self-portraitures, creativity, hard work, and perseverance. However, there were some areas of improvements such as not rushing my work, and having a plan before doing something. Other than that, I am satisfied with my work.
POLISH - I think that there are definitely many areas that I did not do great at. One example would be the hair as my hair usually does not look as messy as the one in the cardboard model. It would have been easily fixed if I took time to plan out how I was going to do that. I also think that the shirt/clothing i made could have been done better if I had brought more cardboard of different colours other than white and black. There were also many times during the lessons where I misunderstood and did things wrongly such as almost cutting off my ears on the body. In the end, through these understandings, I am confident that I would not repeat these mistakes again and would succeed in the future.
