We outlined the contours of our faces and added tones, confining the shadows and bright parts into fixed shapes. We also started transferring the lines onto another piece of paper using carbon paper, which was quite cool because I did not know carbon paper existed :D
Finished transferring the lines onto the paper. This is the blueprint that I'll be using for reference when I start making my face and stuff.
Today I cut out the backing and traced all my facial features onto that piece of cardboard which is going to be my face.
Now I'm tracing out all the parts individually, so I can cut them out and stick them on to the base of my face later. I'm using brown paper for the shadows and white cardboard for the highlights.
I (finally) finished tracing out my features individually and cutting them. Now I'm sticking them onto the face piece. I'm a bit slow yes and also I look weird with my eyes like that.
Today I finished my sticking my facial features, except for the glasses. I look significantly less weird after I added the black parts of my eyes. This is fun to make :D even if it's not that fun to look at.
Ms Ng helped me cut out my glasses and I stuck them on today, so now my face is finally finished yay! I cut out the hairpiece and it's a bit too thin but that's fine. I haven't started working on my hair yet.
Today I did the hair using corrugated cardboard. At first, I wanted to make a ponytail, but then I thought it would be too hard (although now I realize it's probably not) so I did this instead. The hairstyle is a bit simple though.
Today I finished up my hair and started working on my shirt. The edges of the glasses were supposed to be folded down to make it look more realistic, but I had to cut those edges because my hair didn't fit with them there.
I finished my shirt :) It looks kind of plain but I'm not sure what else to add to it.
Today I touched up my shirt a bit (look at how my tears ricochet) and started on my second shirt. This is the final look with the first shirt.
Finished my second shirt! It's less plain than the first one and I think the final look with this shirt looks better :D I also added a stand and velcro on the backs of the face, hair and shirts, so now I can make it stand, swap shirts, and take my face off yes.
I expected it to be very difficult to cut the facial features using the scissors with their large blades, especially the small parts and narrow corners, and I thought that the end result of working with all that cardboard would be very crude, but I actually managed to cut according to the shapes I drew and it didn't end up very bad :D The scissors' blades even (unintentionally) gives the edges of the cardboard a rounded effect, making the whole thing seem softer and more like the face of a human instead of some pieces of cardboard on top of another piece of cardboard.
Given the opportunity, I would've given my shirts more detail and effect, because I think that both of them could be improved, especially the first one which looks a bit too plain. I could have made the collar stand up for the second one, and maybe added more cardboard to the background of the first one.
