MY SELF PORTRAIT
Today, we outlined our portraits!!! Generally, it was quite easy, but the most difficult part was differentiating the parts with shadow, and the parts that are brighter, so that is definitely something I can improve on. Even though it was hard to differentiate, I still did a good job in tracing the lines quite smoothly!
After outlining our portraits, we went onto tracing our portraits! I think that what could be improved on was that my lines are not continuous and smooth... :( as it was challenging to keep the black piece of paper still... Generally, it still turned out better than expected as I actually resembles me! :O
We traced the features on our faces today! I think that the lines are much more continuous than when I traced the lines on the white paper! It's definitely an improvement! However, the lines are a bit wobbly as the cardboard has dents... but that's ok!
After tracing the features into the cardboard, we cut them up and used glue (and brush) to stick them on top! It was quite fun doing that, and satisfying too! I think that I did well in sticking many layers for the eyes, and using white and yellow cardboard! However, I can do better in the proportions of the face, as the cardboard on the forehead and by the side seem a bit not in proportion to the rest of the face...
Today, we continued to stick our highlights on our faces! I was almost done with that last lesson, so I only needed to cut out my spectacles and add on some touches! I think I did well in estimating the size of my spectacles. However, I made the mistake of sticking my face onto the cardboard... so I needed to remake that cardboard...
Today, we started to design our hair! The challenging part was to figure out how I wanted my hair to be like. If I had another chance to redo, I would have tried to use the brown paper to make my hair curl! However, I think I did well in making sure that the hair covers the entire hair frame
I finished up my hair today! I did well in ensuring there are no empty spaces that are not covered by hair! However, I think I can improve on making sure that the hair length are equal, and I can cut the pieces and stick them in smaller sizes, instead of large pieces...
We started on the dress design today! I wanted to make something different other than a collared blouse, so I made a dress to challenge myself! I think I did well in creating the rough design of the dress and trying my best to think of ideas to add on! However, what could have been improved was that the dress is a bit too simple, and only has a bit of layering...
The dress design is finally finished! I have tried to make the dress seem not that simple, and added in a bit more layering, which I think was good! However, the whole dress is mostly green, so it does not have much colour... I think I should use a different coloured cardboard next time! I also tried to make the bottom part "stick out", but I don't really think it shows... Great attempt overall (for me) :D
I'm almost done! We had to stick the velcro and I had to make sure that the velcro is stuck in the correct position, which was the hard part! So, what I could have improved on was sticking the velcro onto the correct position for the hair as I accidentally stuck the velcro slightly off for my hair than the one on the frame... However, I tried to fix it by adjusting the hair to make it look like what it was supposed to look like, which was quite good I guess?
The most final final thing to do! Adding the backing may sound so easy, but it really has some minor challenges! For example, the cardboard length was too short and I tapped it a bit too high! Fortunately, that could easily been "saved" by simply re-tapping it!
The final look is finally out!
Praise and Polish
Praise- Generally, I'm quite satisfied with the results! Although there are still improvements that can be made, from the simplicity of the dress design to the size of the pieces of hair, there are still many areas that I did well in! For example, the layering of features on the face, as well as the precision of sticking the dress pieces, such that it covers the whole cardboard!
Polish- Regardless of what I did well in and what needs to be improved, I think the more important part is to have resilience; to not give up when encountering challenges, whether it is easy, or hard to overcome, especially being someone who is not the best in art! But that's ok, as I believe that as long as I do my best, the results would still be satisfying for me!
