we were taught how to contour our face and trace it out based on the shades ( lighter / darker ) . it was rather uncomfortable at first to draw shapes on my face as it made me look like a wooden doll. we also learnt that this was necessary for us to layer our artwork based on the different shades of cardboard, creating shadows.
we used a piece of carbon paper ( first time using it, quite interesting ) and we placed it between an a4 paper and a paper with our printed photo. then we traced over the printed photo again, this time it allows the drawing to be printed onto the a4 paper. this blueprint was said to be helpful for the process.
after we got our blueprint, we placed our carbon paper between our cardboard and and blueprint and outlined again, letting it be copied over into our cardboard. we then cut out the face of of our blueprint and outlined the facial features inside.
we pasted highlights on our faces to show where the light brightens up our skin. it was a bit challenging as we had to reference a black and white pictures, and we had to cut to that exact shape.
we cut out the hair backing for us to paste our hair on it. as always, i struggled to cut the cardboard but i managed to cut a decently shape on in the end
we did our hair next. i did a base layer, before layering on top to create more contrast and depth to it. it came quite nicely together.
for my first collared shirt, i used a levi, nike and puma bag for it to come together. i thought it was a decent product but ms ng told me that the white background was too plain and i
i redid my shirt, using a ice cream brand vienetta. i used both sides of it to create a pop up ( 3D effect ) and i cut out some patterns n pasted it on top of the cardboard to create me contrast. i added a collar to it to give it more pop.
after that, i pasted a stand behind it to allow it to be propped up easily. i measured the length that i needed, cut it out an pasted it.
my final product finally came to life after doing two copies of the shirt. my teacher said it looked more smooth and less raggedy.
PRAISE
honestly, arts and crafts were never my thing. i always struggled even with the most basic type, like folding origami. so i was quite happy that i was able to come up with an end product despite all that. it looks decent, and my shirt definitely became slightly better from the first copy. i like how my hair came out too, the layers are really interesting. i also like how the viennetta logo name 3D turned out.
POLISH
i feel like my cardboard cutting was rather rough and really quite atrocious. i couldn't cut a lot of shapes properly. it was really tiring as it took a lot of force to cut through the cardboard. i feel like the shape of my face and a lot of other components affected how my end product, which is my upper part, to look rather disorientated and out of shape.
