Today, we had done contour drawings of our faces. When I started I was unsure of what I had to do, with which parts of the face I needed to outline, and even felt embarrassed of the picture of my face. However, eventually, with the help of my teacher and peer, I was able to get the hang of it and was able to identify the items in the picture I needed to outline.
Today, we taped our contour drawing onto a piece of paper and slid a carbon paper in between as we retraced our drawing. I felt nervous as whatever we retraced on our picture could not be erased. However, I tried my best to trace along the lines but as I had used only one piece of tape, the picture shifted ever so slightly, resulting in some lines being uneven. I feel that this could have been more even and the lines could have been more straight if I used more tape.
Today, we had transferred the drawing onto the cardboard with the individual parts of the face drawn out seperately. I feel excited as we were about to start putting the face together and bring the drawing to life. Transferring the individual parts of the face onto cardboard felt a little nerve racking as I was afraid to have messed it up by drawing disproportionately or misaligned.
This hair design was something new to me as I had much more curly hair which forced me to have to do something different for my hair design, by cutting out spirals. Initially, I had no clue how I was supposed to design my hair but after guidance from my teacher, I was able to do so
Designing the clothes was tough as we had to cut out the collar and paste it onto the shirt which was difficult for me to align and estimate how long or big the collar had to be.
Praise: I felt that my final product had turned out better than what I had in mind for how it would end up as I felt that I had made a few errors along the way. Personally, my favorite part of this project was the assembling of my face as it was fun to watch the outline of the face on the cardboard come to life as the different parts got pasted onto it. Another one of my favorite parts was the construction of my hair as cutting out the spirals were very interesting as I continued to glue more and more of them onto the hair frame, which gave it a nice texture.
Polish: If I could have the chance to do this project again, I feel that I would have brought a greater variety of cardboards to design my clothes as I feel that the clothes my artwork has on is bland and could have a greater vibrancy and color. I would also take that chance to try on different hair styles for my artwork as I would want to experiment more on how it could look like.
