after we received our printed picture, we had to trace out everything with a pencil, facial features, hair, neck, shirt and even glasses
we were given carbon paper and instructed to trace out everything, like the first step. we put our printed picture on top, followed by carbon paper and an empty piece of paper. after the tracing, the end result we got is the paper on top
using the carbon paper again, we repeated the steps onto cardboard, this time excluding the hair. after doing so, we had to cut out our head, ears and shoulders, basically becoming an egg with a face
we traced out our facial feature from carbon paper to cardboard of our choice to paste on our face. we used different coloured carboards to show the different shades and shadows. Ms ng helped me cut out the glasses and it seems quite hard so I'm glad I didn't have to do it (thanks queen!!)
in order to have multiple hairstyles, we made a hair backing to paste different cardboard hairstyles onto it with a velcro. we traced out our head and drew another outline 1cm in on cardboard and cut it out. Then we pasted it onto the back of our heads with glue
after we have our hair backing, we designed our hair to our choice. i choose to use a smooth brown paper and adjust my hair texture to my liking. Ms Ng taught me how to curl my hair using a pen so i did so for the ends and my fringe
after im done with my face, i moved on to my clothing. i liked the fact that i was given the freedom to design. i used simple cardboard as a singlet and added an awfully chocolate box i got from ms ng to decorate my shirt. I added miffy from a sticker pack and added 'sparkles' of different colours
the last two steps were simple. We used velcro stickers to paste our face into our body and added a stand at the back. TADA this is my cardboard self portrait
PRAISE - the overall process was quite difficult as the cutting of cardboard was hard to manuover. but i feel like I exceeded by expextations as the end result was much better than what i thought i would be. I liked my shirt quite a lot as it reflected my character. i also liked my hair as i was able to style it to my liking and added bangs and curls. im happy that i got this new hands on experience. im also quite happy with the way my slides turned out as i put in quite a lot of effort as well
POLISH - however, i feel i could have done better especially after i got the hang of it. my facial features could have been better and more accurate. i could have also been more careful when cutting the cardboard and the tracing to make the process easier. if i had a second chance with more experince, i would definitely try it again with higher expectations this time.
