My Self Potrait
I drew the outline of my photograph including the highlights and shadows (contour).
Challenge faced: Since the photo is black and white, it was pretty hard to recognise where the highlights and shadows were.
I transferred the outline of my photograph to a blank paper using carbon paper.
Challenge faced: This will be the blueprint of my art so I have to be very careful to not make any mistakes or else I would have to re-draw it.
I transferred the outlines to a cardboard and cut both my facial shape with the backing of it out.
Challenge faced: The cardboard was a little hard to cut so there are little lumps and cuts around the outline of the result.
I traced out my facial features and cut those out along with my hair backing. I then combined them together using glue. I also added the highlights on my face to give it more dimension.
Challenge faced: Some of the parts were difficult to cut out without breaking it (eg. my glasses, my pupil)
I cut out my hair piece as I have layered hair and I plan on keeping this part of me the same in my art piece. I plan on using this as a backpiece then paste on the different layers of my hair in so that my layered hair would be more 3 dimensional.
Challenge faced: I used this textured cardboard as since it is a hair piece, it should be more flowy. However, it is really challenging to cut this out without crushing the pop up parts.
I added my layered hair pieces and colored strokes of teal and black in it to create a rock star vibe as I really like the fashion of certain rock stars.
Challenge faced: Some parts of the black hair didn't really coordinate well with the hair. So I decided to add the teal in to contrast and blend it in for a more cohesive look.
I created this rock star shirt with the necklace with the jacket.
I created this flap jacket.
I pasted the velcro at the back as I didn't want the velcro to be at the front when I take the jacket out.
I added the velcro to all of my parts. (backing, face, hair, jacket, etc.)
Eg. The velcro for my backing
This is my final work. I really like it!!
Theme: Rock star
Hair: Beige, Teal & Black
Shirt: Rock star shirt
Necklace: Skull
PRAISE :
I feel like in this whole project, I learnt a lot from it. I really like how I did my rock star shirt, hair and skull. I feel like this really shows the rock star theme that I went for. I think that I really like the teal streaks in my hair as I was also inspired by the Slytherin (Harry potter) vibes. I really love it and I hope that you will like it too!! I learnt how to create this art piece and how to persevere through the whole process as in the start, I had a lot of difficulties.
POLISH:
I think that I could do better for this page as I didn't really have much time for this. I also missed out this reflection part which I forgot. However, I think that through this obstacle I faced, I learnt how to reflect on myself and do my work before it was even due. Thank you!
