My Process of making the portrait
On the first day of working on my project, i traced out the shadows and highlights on my face to start the whole proccess. I found it quite difficult to notice where all the shadows and highlights are, and made a couple of mistakes while doing so but still managed to complete it. (I realised i forgot to trace out the shadow beneath and around my nose and so my nose looks quite big😢)
I used the carbon paper to transfer my contour drawing onto another piece of paper. It was quite challenging as i had to make sure i did not draw out of line and had to prevent the paper from moving as i traced each part out.
I transferred the sketches yet again but onto cardboard and cut them out. I used different shades to show more contrast on the highlights of my face and the eyeballs (looks boring without colour) ( no photo sorry)
Hair piece and face piece before pasting
This was how the face and hair piece looks like without anything pasted on them yet.
I then proceeded to paste the parts of my face, highlights, and shadows onto the larger cardboard piece of my face. It took me a while as i had to identify each piece and stick them correctly and make sure that the glue made the pieces stay on as they kept falling off. (Idk why)
Next up, i cut out the hair peice (didn't have a picture) and then created the hair piece but pasting strips of congregated paper onto it. Some pieces weren't sticking and kept falling off and was really annoying. Another thing is it was difficult to make the hair look more natural as they mostly look like straight out pieces.
After i was done with the hair piece, i glued it onto the hair and it looked pretty good :)
It is finally time to start on the clothing! I decided to go with a more special look instead of doing boring T- shirts (hopefully I didn't offend anyone) and decided to make a dress. I first sketched out the shoulder strap before cutting it and pasting it down. Then i wanted to add a little detail so i sketched out and cut out the top white lace like pattern on the dress. Then i cut out red pieces of cardboard and pasted them on. I wanted to add a little speciality and so i just took leftover grey string from the paper bag that i cut out the material for the dress and pasted it on like a necklace for my portrait:)Â Â
I'm so near to the completion of my project! I pasted the velcro onto the head piece and the shoulder piece to place the head onto it.
I took a piece of rectangular cardboard, used some masking tape, and pasted the stand onto my product. I had to make it stand up and paste it at the angle where my product could stand up but it kept slipping down. Nevertheless, i finally pasted it on well and managed to make my product stand up.
And finally, I have completed it! This is my wonderful end product after all my efforts and i managed to make it stand.
Overall, I feel like my product is good enough and i am pretty satisfied with my end product. To be honest, the part of tracing the different parts of my face onto the respective cardboards was challenging as i had to make sure the carbon paper did not move and i was not sketching off the cardboard piece that would result me to have to restart all over again but i was shocked that i managed to complete it and i felt a sense of proud when looking at my final product and thinking about how much effort i had put into it.
Tho, when i was looking at my classmate's products, i realised that i could have put in even more effort into the production of my hair by using black paper to cut strips and that would have made my hair even more realistic. 2nd, If i had not wasted so much time in tracing and cutting out the pieces of my face and sticking them, i could have more time to work on the 2nd hair piece or 2nd piece of clothing for my product and it could have been better.😢
