outline of portrait
i took a photo on my face and i traced out the shadows and important features
tracing features
this is the finsished tracing product.
cardboad face.
i traced my face using carbon paper. it was difficult tracing as one slight mistake could cause the tracing to be inaccurate and causing me to retrace. retracing is bad since we might trace wrongly and cause even more mistake.
Adding features
this part was pretty challenging since i had to meticulously trace and cut out different face and eye shadows on my head.
making the hair
this section was really interesting to me as i got to experiment with different types of hair. i used corragated cardboard to match the rough texture of my hair, so that it will look realistic.
Making the shirt!
i decided to construct the shirt out of recycled milk cartons. i used a different carton on different sides of my shirt. i even added a cutout of the bubble words of chocolate milk in the middle to add some variety to my shirt. my shirt pocket is also a modified milk carton cap!
adding velcro and stand
the last part of my artwork is adding the velcro and the shirt! this part was pretty straight forwards since all i had to do was attach velcro to the hair and the face, and the face to the neckpiece. after this, my project is completed!
at first, i felt as if this art project was impossible! how was i to possibly conjure my face using cardboard? i was worried on my first lesson as to how i was going to tackle such a dawnting task. However, there was light at the end of the tunnel. Ms ng has helped me along the way thanks to her absolutely wonderful teaching. personally, i felt that the shirt was indeed the most challenging part of my artwork. i need to meticulously plan out my strategical approach towards constructing this finely tuned piece of artwork. To make my shirt seem more unique, i added a blend of milk cartons towards my shirt, even attaching the milk bottle cap to my shirt, making a three dimensional feature that people can interact with!
maybe one think i could have done better was being more accurate in my tracing and my placement of woodened graphite onto my cardboard. given more time and materials, i would definitely use a different approach towards the construction of my shirt. i could have used more patterns and different shirt designs and even being able to add more designs to my glasses and hair. i would also have done the hair frame differently since my hair frame only fits my current hair. it is oddly shapped and i would definitely change it to be a more accomodating shape.
