MY SELF PORTRAIT
Contour outline of initial picture
In the first few lessons, we outlined our initial photograph - we traced out shadows, highlights and other minor features of our face.
Contour outline of blueprint
I transferred the newly outlined picture onto a blank piece of A4 paper.
Traced portrait features (Faciography)
Shown here are my traced out facial features. We then proceeded to cut them out from this piece of cardboard. We also used white pieces of cardboard for the highlights on our face, and lighter pieces of brown paper for the shadows.
Putting hair backing on hair frame to see if it fits!
I tried putting the hair backing onto the hair frame to see whether it fit or not, otherwise I would have to redo the hair backing.
Completed face and hair
This is the completed look when the hair and face are put together.
Hair frame and hair backing
Here, the hair frame and hair backing are shown separately.
Completed shirt design
This is the completed shirt design. It was made from soft cardboard that I found at home (small cereal boxes) and the collars of the shirt were from another box made from soft cardboard (an ice cream box)
Completed/final hair design
For the hair, I added some coloured strips and some layers using this textured cardboard. Quite satisfied with how it turned out.
Completed hair and shirt - Final look
I did not take many pictures of the process of making the hair - however, I am quite satisfied with how it turned out. I am also quite happy with how the finished product (as a whole) looks and I am glad that my work is up to my own expectations. :)
End product with stand
I made a stand using a long strip of cardboard, and I tested it multiple times to ensure that it can allow my end product to stand up firmly without toppling over.
Front of my end product
Complete (standing) product from front view - Hair, shirt, face.
Shirt design (Pocket)
Little pocket I added onto my shirt as part of an effort to decorate it more/design it more
Praise and Polish
Praise: I think I did the hair particularly well, since I put quite a lot of effort into thinking of how to design it and make it look nice. As you can see, there are a few layers that I have added on the hair. I have also added some coloured strips cut out from my soft cardboard to make it look more vibrant, colourful and less dull. I think I have also done the shirt quite decently, since it is full of colourful patterns and designs. I have also added a little pocket to my shirt (right side of shirt) to make it look nicer, plus some collars near the top of the shirt as well.
Polish: I think more additions could be used for the shirt. It is nice and colourful, but personally, I don't feel that it is striking enough. It does not really stand out that much. So maybe, I would like to make a few more changes/additions, or maybe even make another shirt with more intricate patterns or nicer designs in order to make it look more striking/make it stand out to people more.
