My Self Portrait
I outlined my facial features on my printed photograph. I also had to carefully outline the highlights and shadows on my face. I found this activity interesting as this was my first time analysing the details on my face.
In order to get this sketch, i had to put carbon paper in between a blank piece of paper and my photograph. I had to be very paitient and careful as I could not erase any of the errors that I made. I had to add some lines in my hair so that it would not look too empty. However, it turned out looking strange.
I had to repeat last week's procedure but instead of using a blank piece of paper, I used cardboard. I had to apply slightly more pressure on my outlines as the cardboard was thicker. I think that the face turned out a little lopsided.
I had to trace out my different facial features using carbon paper again. I had to make sure that everything was accurate, so that the end product will not turn out too imprecise.
I had to cut out my facial features and stick it on the face carboard. I needed to paste it within my sketch on the face. However, as i was cutting, I realised that I had traced my facial features on a different colour tone. Therefore, when i create my highlights and shadows, I will have to find an even contrasting tone to add it on the cardboard.
I had to create the frame of my glasses and stick it on the face. It was challenging to cut out the hair piece as I had to carefully outline the face shape properly.
I used the cardboard of the Honey Stars cereal packaging as the design of my shirt. I wanted to cut out the significant desgins on the cardboard to add to my shirt. I had to cut out the pieces accurately.
I used a different type of cardboard, with a stripe design for my hair pieces. I made many pieces to create the hair shape.
I had to stick all the hair pieces on the hair frame. The hair frame fits onto the cardboard face.
After assembling all the cradboard together, this is the final look. I used velvro to attach all the pieces together so that the whole piece would be more stable.
Praise: I am happy that the final piece turned out well. I like that this made me unleash my creativity into designing the details on my face, the shirt, the hair as well as making the highlights. I enjoyed the whole process of making this piece as it allowed me to learn how to do things carefully and meticuluously so that i can address the small details. This is also my first time creating such a piece and i enjoyed myself in the making process.
Polish: If I could redo my artwork, I will want to further work on the highlights on my face. I think that i could add more highlights to my face so that the face will turn out better. I would also want to work on the hair more. This time, I only followed my photograph by adding only the fringe. I feel that i should have added more hair pieces so that the look will be better.
