1.Contour Outline of my photograph (week 2)
Today, we learnt step by step how to trace different parts of or faces based on the lightings on our photographs. One difficultly I had when doing this was that since the photograph used was a printed black and white picture, some parts were not very clear, so it was hard for me to trace those parts out as i had to look and refer back to my original photo taken on my phone.
2. Blueprint of my Contour Drawing (Week 3)
Today, we traced our photographs onto a carbon paper and transferred them onto a blank piece of paper. This was relatively easier to do as we had the help of the carbon paper and all we needed to do was to trace them for the picture to be transferred.
3. Traced Portrait Features - Faciography (week 4)
Today, we traced parts of our faces on different colours of cardboard, depending on how light or dark we wanted each part to be. All the different facial features had to be cut out separately to be pasted on the cardboard, which is our face. If I had the chance to repeat this process, I would have tried to save more carboard space so that I could use them for other purposes later in this project.
4. completed Face Assembling (week 6)
Today, we finally completed all the cutting out of the different parts of the facial features and pasted them together to form the face. As you can see, I used a white carboard with a little bit a design for my spectacles as i want the spectacles to be one of the prominent things I want others to notice. At first, i thought that cutting out the spectacles would be a difficult, but then I realised that it was relatively easy to do. Overall, I liked how simple and clean my cardboard face looked.
5.Hair Frame (week 8)
when i had to cut out my hair frame, i realised that there was one hair frame that was very thin so i had to thicken it. this is due to the fact that my forehead is quite big, but after i thicken my hairpiece, it was easier for me to work with when i did my bangs.
6. Face with Hair Frame (week 8)
This is the result after i thicken my hair frame. Although it looks very bald now, i promise it would look much better once i'm done with my hair which i'm quite excited for.
7. Completed interchangeable hair piece (week 8)
Today, i finally completed the hair piece by sticking each layer of the hair one by one. Even though the process was quite troublesome, the overall look of my hair turned out quite well. I did this kind of rock and roll styled hair, with bangs and short hair because i wanted to try a different style which i would not be able to do so in real life. Therefore, i was quite happy with how it had turned out. If there is more time after i completed the whole artwork, i would want to try to do another hairstyle, maybe one that is very curly.
8. Overall look of hair with face (week 8)
After I completed the interchangeable hair, i put it together with my face, to complete the overall look of hair with face. Maybe if i could do the hairstyle again, i would want to try to make my hair a little bit curlier and more flowy so that the overall look does not look too stiff. However, i am still satisfied with what i did and am very proud of myself.
9. Completed Shirt (week 9)
This is my completed shirt design which i made it a blouse and i used one of my favourite snack packaging to do so.
10. Completed Shirt With the backing only (week 9)
After i put the completed shirt on the backing, i realised that my shirt was a little plain but i still tried my best to make it look suitable for my face.
11. Overall look with Face and Shirt/ blouse design (week 9)
After i put the completed shirt together with my face, i felt that it had a little bit of a christmas vibe due to the snack packaging i used. However, i still liked how my shirt looks on me.
12. 1st draft Final look (week 9)
I felt that the overall look had made me look like i was born in the 2000s cause of my hair colour, which was very close to blonde and was a style in the 2000s but I was still very satisfied as i had put in a lot of effort and time to reach into this stage. I was a little confused on how to make the blouse 'pop' up, and not sticking directly on the carboard making it very 2D so i went to look at Teacher's references and after a while, i finally understood.
13. completed 2nd interchangeable hairpiece.
i completed the second draft for the hair. This time, instead of making my hair straight, i made it look curly to have a different vibe to my piece. i used what teacher taught me to curl up hair, which is to use a pencil and roll up each strand of my hair and i found it quite effective to do so.
14. 2nd interchangeable hairpiece with face
i placed my second interchangeable hair piece together with my face and i need to admit... i look like an auntie. But its fine, i realised that i can just make my artwork be of styles completely different from each other.
15. 2nd interchangeable hair piece with face and body
After i placed my 2nd interchangeable hairpiece with my face and body, it looks a bit weird but it was better when i put on the shirt that i made.
16. 2nd draft final look
After i saw the 2nd completed hairpiece together with my face, body and shirt, i realised that it make me look like an auntie😭😂, born in 1980s. However, its fine caused now my 2 pieces of artworks' topic can be called " different generations". 🤣 However, i was still satisfied with my overall look, regardless of which style it is in.
Praise: i liked how i did my hair. Firstly, its because i got to see how i looked like which bangs and short hair which was a completely different style from what i'm used to. Secondly, I liked the fact that i added some highlights in order to have a 'rock and roll' kind of style which looks pretty cool to me. Even though this interchangeable hair piece was the one that i spent the longest time on, i am very proud and glad that i had put in a lot of effort on the hair. Lastly, i liked this hairstyle as it turned out what i had wanted it to look like and i felt that it was quite suitable for my face. Maybe after eoy, i might be considering to change to this hairstyle. 😁
polish: One improvement i could make to my artwork is definitely the design of my shirt, which is the blouse. This is because i found my design a bit too simple and plain. This is partly due to the limited coloured cardboard i have, my lack of creativity and my poor workmanship. Hence, i wasn't able to create a shirt that is very unique and out of the ordinary, but i still tried hard to make a proper shirt instead of randomly doing it as i would always want to make my artwork with the best of my abilities. If i could do something like this again, i would still continue to do it to the best of my efforts, but i would do more research on the kind of shirt that i could wear, instead of a normal collared t- shirt. 🥳
