Week 2: 7th July: Today we did the general outline for our portraits, and we drew out the different parts of our face. Finding out which part to trace was a bit difficult, but it was quite fun in the end! We also used carbon paper at the end of the lesson to transfer our outline, and it was really interesting too.
Week 3: 14th July: Today I finished up my carbon tracing, and even though I didn't have much hair to draw on, I think it looks quite alright though. Towards the end of the lesson, we also cut out some cardboard pieces of our overall head shape! (After transferring the outline using carbon paper)
Week 5: 28Th July: Since I missed week 4's lesson, I had to catch up some things. First, I had to trace out my face on the cardboard using carbon paper. Then I cut out the cardboard pieces and glued them in layers to my carboard head. I used a lighter cardboard colour for the highlights, as well as the whites of my eyes.
Week 6: 4th August: I managed to make the hair backing for my cardboard portrait. Although the tracing part got quite tedious, it ended up fitting quite nicely to my cardboard portrait. Next week I am doing the hair piece for my portrait!
Week 7: 11th August: I managed to do some sort of bangs onto the hair backing, but I think I will have to re-do them next week. The hair backing is already splitting into two, so I will have to re-do it, and next time I will make it thicker.
Week 8: 18th August: I re-did both the hair backing, as well as the hairstyle, and I made sure to make the hair backing thicker now that I learnt that the middle was prone to bending. I made a new hairstyle to go with the new backing, and I also added in some brown colour paper highlights along with the cardboard paper hair, to make it look more colourful!
Week 9: 25th August: Today, I made some adjustments to the hair, and I made the clothes piece. Since I still have a bit of time left, I may still make some changes the the clothes piece. The clothes piece is also temporary, as I made use of the velcro strips. Soon, I will make a second hair and shirt that will be better than the one I have now! (Week 10 had no lesson due to presidential elections - Public Holiday)
Term 4: Week 1: 15th September: Today, I decided to make an alternate shirt, in which i used some elements of a bag I brought to school, as well as the packaging of an oatblend. I really liked the design on the bag as well as the product packaging, so I utilised them for this shirt! Next week, I will be doing another hair piece, and a cardboard stand!
Term 4 Week 2: 22nd September: Today, I managed to work on the backing of my cardboard portrait, and I added some confetti details to my hair.
*My shirt also has my name "Elyse" Spelt out, and I thought that was a really cool addition that I did to my shirt!
So these are my final shirt designs, and I'm really happy with how they turned out! I think the matching hair piece with some of the sparkly confetti really help pull the look together!
Praise: I think that the second shirt was a much bigger improvement! I also really liked the shimmery confetti I added to the hair, and the designs that I utilised from the packaging of the product. I think that the usage of the letters from the product packaging, to spell out my name, is also a nice touch! It adds a bit of uniqueness to my second shirt and makes it distinctly mine. I also liked the string that I used from the product bag, to act as a neckline for the second shirt. Lastly, I also think that my hair is quite unique, and the shimmery bits are really cool, and compliment the first and second shirt well.
Polish: I think that the first shirt could've been better, and I think I could've added more details to the first shirt. For the second shirt, I also feel that I could've placed the patterns, from the second shirt, in a neater way. I also feel that my hair could've been improved on, since it does look a bit messy sometimes. Next time, I will create a larger main hair piece, and stick the hair strips onto the hair piece, rather than placing the hair strips directly onto the hair backing. I would also like to test out more hair and clothes designs, as I feel that I could've done nicer designs!
Overall, I really enjoyed the process of making my cardboard portrait, and I would like to experiment with more designs, and improvements, on the design of my shirt, and hair in the future!
