I AM A PIECE OF ART
Contour outline of my Photograph
Facial features on printed picture are traced using pencil.
Reason: Contour drawing (outline) can be used for further processes.
Blueprint of my Contour Drawing
Features on Contour Drawing (outline) are drawn on separate bank piece of paper.
Reason: Meant to refer features of self portrait on a new piece of paper.
Traced Portrait Features - Faciography
On cardboard, facial features of the face/self portrait were traced with carbon paper and the contour drawing (outline).
Reason: For easier reference of location and pasting of facial parts on cardboard face. Traced facial features on cardboard face cut out from the cardboard.
Reason: Save/Not waste unused cardboard. Labelling is used for easier identification of facial parts on cardboard.
Traced Portrait Features - Faciography
With Shadows & Light Reflection
Continuation of the Traced Facial Features.
Shadows are traced onto darker cardboard. Light reflections are traced onto lighter cardboard.
Reason: Highlight different Lightings on face, making the self portrait look more realistic. Different shades of cardboard highlight this.
Completed Face Assembling
Cardboard facial features on cardboard face. Some facial features are layered onto each other.
Reason: Create "3D effect", making cardboard portrait more realistic.
Hair Backing & Hair Frame
Hair Backing and Hair Frame are done at the same time.
Reason: Prepare for the Step of Making the Hair.
Different pieces of random cardboard were pasted to create the Hair.
(Supposed) End Product of the Hair.
Reason: First time trying, unsure of how to start, so "Fake it till you make it". Came out Okay.
Few minor tweaks & improvements were made to the Hair.
Final End Product of the Hair.
Reason: Make the Hair look more realistic during the "extra" time.
A tissue box was used for the Shirt. The Shirt was estimated on the tissue box, cut and pasted.
Reason: To complete the Portrait Relief, and the last part remaining is the Shirt.
(Portrait Relief with Shirt)(Collar included)
A tissue box was used for the Shirt, even for the collar to "stick to the theme".
End Product of the Portrait Relief.
(2nd Additional Hair)
A choice to do an additional part (Hair/Shirt) was given due to the extra lesson.
Chose to do the 2nd Hair. Reason: Felt doing Hair was more easier to complete. (Wanted to do long hair, but didn't know how to do it and went back to short hair.)
(2nd Additional Hair)
End Product of the Portrait Relief with the 2nd Additional Hair
Minor adjustments/improvements made to the 1st & 2nd Hair
(Especially the 1st original Hair, different coloured papers were added for lighting)
REFLECTIONS - Praise & Polish
Praise: Honestly, I think the First Hair I did actually came out pretty well and I liked the End Product.
The process was "weird/somewhat unclear". I just chit-chat with my tablemates, share materials here and there etc., while just pasting cardboard onto the Hair Frame. My tablemates weren't sure about how to do the Hair, so I just "Faked it till you make it". I just thought "if the cardboard looked good somewhere, just paste it." In the end, I thought the Hair turned out similar to my real hair.
I learnt to take more pride in my work even when there is uncertainty, so that I can try my best and give my best result possible.
Polish: One improvement I could have made was the Shirt. Honestly, it was a PAIN to do.
During the making of the Shirt, there was understanding issues, execution/skill issue when cutting, pasting etc., to the point there was an argument between making a jacket/turtle neck shirt, and a shirt with collars. The material was also not that good (could see the line of bending) and the End Product, I didn't really like it. I didn't do another Shirt because I didn't want to go through all the trouble again.
I learnt that I have to at least try so that I can overcome challenges, even if they are difficult to do.
