Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
This was a great week at Wilmot - the Wilmot Warblers did an amazing job singing the National Anthem at the Rockies game and the Rockies even won the game! Field day was also a spectacular success thanks to Coach’s hard work and the willingness of parents to volunteer at the stations and cheer kids on. Thankfully, we had beautiful weather and enjoyed the festivities before the chilly, wet weather arrived this weekend. Our school carnival, Bandana Day, is this Friday and it looks like we will enjoy another beautiful day! If you haven’t already done so, you should grab your tickets and join in the fun of the outdoor carnival with games, bouncy houses, and food trucks.
In addition to Bandana day, there are several other important events coming up over the next couple of weeks. On Wednesday, September 25th, we will be conducting our yearly lockdown drill. While we are all sad that such drills are necessary, it is important for staff and students to develop the muscle memory to respond quickly and appropriately if an emergency situation were to arise. There is an overhead announcement that advises everyone to lockdown. Everyone finds a place to quietly hide behind a closed, locked door. We will be talking with students about the drill and encourage you to talk about it at home as well.
The end of September and beginning of October also mark the beginning of the “student count window”. School funding in Colorado is based on how many students are in attendance for a 10 day period around the beginning of October. The number of students in attendance on these days determines Wilmot’s budget for staff and programs. Please help us ensure an accurate count/funding by having your child arrive on time and maintain good attendance. If your child is sick and cannot come to school, please make sure to call in their absence so we have the correct documentation.
Please take a few minutes to peruse the rest of the Wilmot Weekly to find out about the chalk art context, where to buy Wilmot Wear, and register for the Reflections competition. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing you at school this week and at Bandana Day on Friday!

Kinder with Gossie & Gertie
We have an exciting opportunity to hear student voices. Stephany and Katie have started inviting random students to have lunch with them while they talk about celebrations and concerns. Students share their favorite parts of their school day and any struggles they might be experiencing. They will also be invited to talk about their ideas on how to make Wilmot even more Wonderful.
It’s official – October Count Day this year is Tuesday, October 1.
The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from Tuesday, September 24 through Tuesday, October 8, but the most important student count day is Tuesday, October 1. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.
If your student will be absent on Tuesday, October 1 due to illness, please call our attendance line, 303-982-5367 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Tuesday, October 1.
Thank you for your support of Wilmot Elementary. Every student counts!

We have some exciting news to share about our Watch D.O.G. program!
Program Name Change
We're updating the name from Watch D.O.G.S. to Wildcat Watch. This new name better reflects our inclusive community and aligns perfectly with our school. We are still doing our contest each month to reward the classroom/s with the most Wildcat Watch volunteers.
Why the Change?
Inclusivity: We want to ensure our program welcomes all parents and grandparents—moms, dads, and guardians alike.
Tailored Program: Creating our own program allows us to focus on Wilmot's specific needs without the constraints of the national Watch D.O.G.S. guidelines.
Cost Efficiency: Transitioning away from the national program helps us avoid unnecessary expenses, allowing us to allocate resources where they're needed most.
Volunteers Needed
We're still in need of volunteers for the rest of this week and throughout the month. Your support is crucial in keeping our students safe during drop-off and pick-up times, as well as checking the school's exterior doors after classes begin.
Sign-Up Updates: We will be updating the sign-up forms to reflect our new name, Wildcat Watch. Keep an eye out for these changes, and feel free to sign up for any dates that fit your schedule.

Join the Fun—Wear the Wildcat Mascot Suit!
To add some extra fun and school spirit, we're inviting any interested volunteers to wear the Wildcat mascot during their shifts! We already have one enthusiastic parent doing this, and the kids love it. If you'd like to join in, send us an email.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
Go Wildcats!

The Stopfinder app will activate for Wilmot families on September 30th!
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well! The Wilmot PTA is gearing up for our longstanding annual fall event, Bandana Day 2024. We are in need of several committee members to help make Bandana Day a success.
Specifically, we are looking for 2-3 preschool parents who can oversee the Preschool Entertainment Committee. The committee's main tasks include checking on the little bouncy house and games they already have in the PTA shed, ensuring everything is there and in good shape. On the day of the event, Friday, September 27th from 4:30 PM - 7 PM, committee members would need to be present from 4-7 PM. You can choose to split up the shifts or be there together for the entire time.
Please note that there are already volunteers signed up to run the games (we are always looking for more, signup link to volunteer day of is here) and assist the preschoolers, so your role would mainly involve overseeing the setup and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
If any parents are interested, you can sign up using this link. For any questions, you can email wilmotpta@gmail.com. To access the PTA shed, you can reach out to Jenny Sacks at jbud07@gmail.com.
This event only happens with your help, if we don't have the volunteers, we will have to close games. This is a great way to get involved with your child and support Wilmot, they are only young once..... Thank you so much for your support and for help making this event a fantastic experience for our preschoolers!
Destination Imagination (DI) is an internationally renowned extracurricular competition that challenges students to use their imagination and innovative thinking to solve complex problems in various STEAM topics. DI is sponsored by the Jeffco School’s Gifted and Talented Department but is open to all Jeffco students. DI’s mission is to prepare Colorado kids to be the innovators of the future by combining the arts, sciences and technology with creativity, teamwork and problem solving.
Our goal is to get the word out to all of our Jeffco families and to have students from Jeffco schools participate. We will be hosting an all Jeffco Parent Information Night on Zoom on September 24th. We have attached an Informational Flyer that contains all of the information parents will need to join the Zoom Info Night.
