Dragon Art Parade
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying a great weekend! The snow at the end of last week was a nice surprise. Just a reminder that we go out for recess if the “feels like” temperature is 17 degrees or above. We prioritize giving kids a nice long recess and they really enjoy playing together in the snow. Please make sure to send your child with a coat and appropriate snow gear so they can join in the fun.
We are starting this week at Wilmot with the 3rd-5th grade spelling bee on Monday at 1:15. Parents are welcome to attend to cheer on their child and all of the participants. Then on Wednesday, January 31st please join us for the Music Trivia Night for all preschool-5th grade families. PTA organized this event to help parents meet one another and regain some of the social connectedness we lost during the pandemic. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun!
You should have received an email directly from Jeffco Public Schools asking you to participate in the Panorama Survey. You can click the link in that email or access the link by scrolling down just a bit in the Wilmot Weekly. This survey gives us really valuable feedback about what we are doing well as a school and areas where we can improve. If you haven’t already done so, we really appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill it out. We also have a bit of a friendly competition going to see which mountain area school can get the highest percentage of parent responses so of course we are hoping to win!
As I shared last week, parent teacher conferences are planned for the week of February 12th. Teachers will be offering conference times after school and possibly on the teacher work day, February 16th. Our generous PTA is arranging to provide dinner for teachers on these conference evenings. If you are willing to help, please see the link below.
I had planned to send out the conference sign up link in this email, but it isn’t quite ready yet. I will send it out this week in a separate email as soon as it’s ready. Thank you for making time to partner with us!
I look forward to seeing you this week at school!

Hello Wonderful Wilmot Community,

We are looking for volunteers to bring in food the night of Monday February 12th - Thursday February 15th, breakfast treats Friday February 16th, as well as help with setup, and cleanup. So that there is a variety of food throughout the week, we thought it would be fun to do a specific theme each night.
Monday: Italian
Tuesday: Mexican
Wednesday: Your Favorite Dish (what do you love to make, what do your kiddos love to eat)
Thursday: Pizza will be purchased
Friday: While there is no school this day, this is a teacher work day and we thought it would be nice to provide sweets, drinks, and fruit.
To sign up, please click here. Thank you for supporting our Wonderful Wilmot teachers!
Thank you,
Jenny Sacks

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
The Family Survey is now open. Families were sent a seperate email from Jeffco Public Schools with details. If you have not already, please use this link to fill out the survey. It will be open through Friday, February 23rd.
