Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
We had a great week at Wilmot last week including a school-wide dance party to celebrate filling the kindness jar in the office! It was so much fun! We’re going to keep the kindness going through the end of the school year and celebrate each time the jar in the office is filled. In addition to the dance party, we picked two students from each grade to come help with the announcements this week. Congrats to Daniel and Evie A in kindergarten, Greyson and John in first grade, Alice K and Wyatt in second grade, Greyson and Celeste in third grade, Grey G and Ruby in fourth grade and Rafe L and Scarlett in fifth grade! I look forward to having them join us each morning this week! I will choose kindness tickets from the jar each week so a new group of students has the chance to do announcements.
As you scroll down in the Wilmot Weekly, you will also see kids using robots in STEM this week. Mrs. Mihalik goes above and beyond to borrow robots and plan these amazing opportunities for our students! This week at Wilmot is a little more quiet with the exception of class picture day on Wednesday and report cards going home on Friday. Starting on Monday, March 4th, we are kicking off our Watch Dogs competition. The grade or class that has the most Watch Dog volunteers (dads, moms, grandparents, aunts, uncles) during the month of March will win a PJ/Stuffy/Popsicle party! If you have multiple children/grandchildren at Wilmot, they will each get to count your volunteer time towards their grade level total. Morning duty is from about 7:25-7:50ish and afternoon duty is from 2:25-2:45ish. If you are interested in signing up to be a Watch Dog, please send an email to Chase Cournington (chase.courington@gmail.com) and Jenny Sacks (jbud07@gmail.com) to be added to the signup emails.
Please be on the lookout for report cards coming home this week in your child's Friday folder. I look forward to seeing you at school this week!

Spring picture day is THIS Wednesday, February 28th. Class pictures will be taken on this day. Families who would like individual photos of their child can place orders through Lifetouch as well. Individual photos will only be taken for students with orders requested.
Calling all Watch DOGS, current and new! Starting in March and through the end of this school year, Watch DOGs will be competing in a fun and friendly competition to see who volunteers the most for each month and wins a PJ, stuffy, or popsicle party for their child/children or grandchild/grandchildrens classroom.
For those who are interested in joining Watch DOGs, love competitions, but most importantly want to win a classroom party please reach out to Chase Cournington (chase.courington@gmail.com) or Jenny Sacks (jbud07@gmail.com) to be added to the signup emails.
Wilmot Wildcats have been focusing on kindness this month and our students earned enough kindness tickets to fill up the kindness jar!! We celebrated together with a school wide kindness dance party. There were conga lines and even some break dancing. What a fun way to celebrate together!
We will continue to collect kindness tickets until we fill the jar again. Looking forward to another dance celebration.
Here are some resources to share with your family to help promote kindness at home as well.

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
Dear Wilmot,
We are ramping up planning for our Spring Silent Auction and schoolwide dance (more info on that soon to be announced!).
However, in the meantime we are canvassing the community for two things:
Donation of an item or service to auction off at the online silent auction
Businesses to buy a table to promote your business during the school dance at the business expo in the cafeteria. We offer a discount to school clubs and non-profits!
See attached letter for more information. Let us know if you are willing to help with a donation by emailing wilmotpta@gmail.com. Feel free to help us collect items for the auction as well by sharing this letter with your networks.
Thank you!
