Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
We have just one week to go before spring break! On Tuesday of this week we have an informational meeting for 5th grade parents about the Growing and Changing unit, as well as PTA and Wilmot Council meetings in the evening. Then on Friday, our kindergarten students will enjoy tea with an author. Spring break for all Jeffco students is from Monday, March 18th through Friday, March 22nd. Please note that there is no school for students on Monday, March 25th. Teachers will be engaged in professional development and planning.
Thank you to all those parents, grandparents and other volunteers who have signed up to be a Watch Dog. If you haven’t had a chance yet, the Watch Dog contest will continue in April and May so there’s still time! Please send an email to wilmotwatchdogs@gmail.com if you would like access to the sign up. The grade level or levels with the greatest number of volunteer Watch Dogs in March will win a PJ/stuffy/popsicle party on Friday, March 29th.
We chose a new set of kind kids from the kindness jar to help with announcements this week. Congratulations to these students for being so kind and setting a good example for others: Aesen and Zachary in kindergarten, Emerly and Grant in 1st grade, Sterling and Finley in 2nd grade, Coen and Cambria in 3rd grade, Rowan H. and Marion in 4th grade, and Eli and Graycin in 5th grade. Our jar is filling quickly so I bet we’ll earn another dance party soon - possibly even before the end of the week!
There are a couple of events coming up after spring break that I would like to bring to your attention. The Young Writer’s Conference is on Thursday, March 28th at 6:30 pm at Marshdale Elementary. Then the following week is a really busy one! We have Talent Show rehearsal on Monday, April 1st, the Science Fair on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2nd and 3rd, Colorado Characters during the day and evening of April 4th, and the Talent Show during the day and evening of Friday the 5th.
As I shared last week, the Colorado Measures of Academic Success assessments occur in grades 3, 4 and 5 in April. Generally we schedule testing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but small group accommodations may happen on other days. We appreciate your help ensuring your child is at school as much as possible during these assessments. If your child is sick, we will schedule a time for them to make up the assessments. Thank you for helping us get the CMAS testing completed with as little disruption to our classroom and building schedules as possible.
Please see below for other happenings this week at Wilmot. My next update and message will occur on Sunday, March 24th. I look forward to seeing you at school this week!

Principal, Wilmot Elementary
Spring Break will be March 18th through March 25th. Monday, March 25th is a Teacher Work Day. Students will return to classes on Tuesday, March 26th.
The Wilmot Community Action Team are organizing a food drive for the month of March! The canned and boxed food that we collect will go to our friends and neighbors here in Evergreen. It will benefit the Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO) food bank, and it will provide food for Wilmot families in need through the Mountain Backpacks program. We are lining the food up along the front hall. Our goal is to fill the entire front hallway with our donations. The food drive will end on March 28. Thank you for your support in helping our local community!

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.

We are re-sending this sign up genius as we are in need of some helpers to plan the Friendship Spring Dance. Please consider signing up to help make this event a success. If you have any questions, please let us know.
We also have a sign up for day of/party dance volunteers here
Volunteers are really needed to bring some fresh ideas to these events and your kids will appreciate it! To keep these events going on the PTA calendar each year we need volunteers and it doesn't have to be a major time commitment.
Finally, PTA will be voting on next school year's budget at our next meeting which is Tuesday March 12th at 5:30 PM. The agenda can be found here. Please consider joining that meeting in person or zoom to have a vote on how PTA funds are spent next year.

Dear Wilmot,
We are ramping up planning for our Spring Silent Auction and schoolwide dance (more info on that soon to be announced!).
However, in the meantime we are canvassing the community for two things:
Donation of an item or service to auction off at the online silent auction
Businesses to buy a table to promote your business during the school dance at the business expo in the cafeteria. We offer a discount to school clubs and non-profits!
See attached letter for more information. Let us know if you are willing to help with a donation by emailing wilmotpta@gmail.com. Feel free to help us collect items for the auction as well by sharing this letter with your networks.
Thank you!
