Let's spell!
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weekend and the start of football if you're a fan. As we begin our fourth week of school, we want to share some important areas of focus that are guiding our work at Wilmot this year. Our commitment is to create an enriching and supportive environment where every student can thrive. This year, we are emphasizing three key areas: fostering a sense of belonging, shifting the cognitive load, and upholding high expectations.
1. Fostering a Sense of Belonging
Creating an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere is essential for student success. We believe that when children feel they belong, they are more engaged and motivated to learn. Our teachers are dedicated to building strong relationships with each student, ensuring that everyone feels valued and understood. Through the implementation of CREW, teachers are working to create classroom environments where every student feels like a vital part of our community. CREW is the social emotional component of our EL Education resource. Each person has a role to play in fostering a welcoming classroom and school because, “We are CREW, not passengers.”
2. Shifting the Cognitive Load
Another emphasis for this year is asking students to take ownership of their learning. This requires that they grapple with problems, make mistakes, and persevere. There is more learning, long-term retention, ability to transfer to novel situations, and pride when students engage in this deeper intellectual work.
3. Upholding High Expectations
Maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations is crucial for student growth. We are committed to setting and communicating clear, challenging goals that encourage each student to reach their full potential. Our teachers will provide the instruction, support, resources needed to help students meet these expectations, while also celebrating their progress and achievements along the way.
We believe that by focusing on these key areas, we can create a positive and productive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to excel. We encourage you to partner with us in this effort by supporting your child’s learning journey at home and sharing any insights or concerns you may have.

Dear Wilmot Family,
This week, the Wilmot Community Action Team will be starting our first project! We will be collecting water bottles. They will be washed and distributed to families who get their groceries from Joy's Kitchen. This is a food rescue organization that donates excess food from supermarkets to those most in need in Denver. You can learn more about it using the link below.

Please consider joining Wilmot's school accountability committee (SAC) - Wilmot Council! No dues, no fundraising obligations, just join our conversation! We meet one evening per month (typically 2nd Tuesday) via Google Meet. Attend when you can! Help us continue to improve our school community by having a say in school spending, school improvement, and other school decisions. No expertise necessary! Please contact Katy Rogers at katyjrogers@gmail.com for more information. Our first meeting will be September 24th at 7:15 pm.
Being a Part of the Wilmot Community - Volunteer Opportunities
PTA and overall Wilmot programming want to gauge how we can best set parents and caregivers up for success in learning more about special events and volunteering at Wilmot. We also would love to know where volunteer interest is focused (and where we might have gaps). Please fill out this quick form to help us set this year up for success.
Does your student ride the bus to Wilmot? Look for an email invitation from the Jeffco Transportation team for Stopfinder. What is Stopfinder? It is the all-in-one, easy-to-use app for viewing and sharing your student’s transportation schedule and peace of mind. Visit the Stopfinder webpage to learn more!
The Stopfinder app will activate for Wilmot families on September 30th!
Jefferson Center is hosting a parenting class for families this week. Please see the attached flyer for details and registration information.
The Wilmot community works together to ensure high levels of learning for all. This includes not only being attentive to academic growth, but also recognizing that the social and emotional growth of students is critically important. We will be using the Social Skills Improvement System™ Social-Emotional Learning Edition Screening/Progress Monitoring Scales (SSIS SEL) to screen students' social-emotional competencies. The SSIS SEL Edition Screening/Progress Monitoring Scales is a strength-based tool for screening and progress monitoring social and emotional competence. Teachers will be asked to score each student in their class in the five areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Most students will be screened two times per year.
Student Insights is a resourceful tool for K-12 families and students in grades 6-12 to view current and historical assessment data and plans that are applicable to your student.
2023-24 CMAS student score reports are now available electronically in Student Insights. Our school will also be sharing paper reports with families during parent teacher conferences in October. If you would like your paper reports sooner, please place a request with Sarah Lindmeier at sarah.lindmeier@jeffco.k12.co.us
