Library Book Tasting
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying this quintessential Colorado Sunday - snow on the ground and a bright blue, sunny sky up above. Thank you to all of the parents who have already filled out the Person of Interest forms. We are so thankful for your partnership in ensuring the safest possible environment for our Wilmot kids! I also want to recognize your generous donations to Mercy Chefs and their work to support those impacted by the California wildfires. So far CATs has raised $1280 and donations will continue to be accepted through the end of this week.
On Monday of this week our preschoolers are taking a walking field trip to a construction site in conjunction with their unit on buildings. On Tuesday many of our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be competing in the Wilmot Spelling Bee at 1:15 in the cafeteria. The top finishers will go on to compete in the Mountain Area Spelling Bee, hosted by Wilmot on Wednesday, February 5th at 4:30.
We are in our 3rd year of implementing the EL Education literacy program. Part of the power of EL Education lies in connecting to experts in our community to create meaningful experiences and “expeditions” that deepen students’ learning. This spring kindergarten is studying trees, 1st grade is studying birds, and 2nd grade is studying pollinators. If you have any ideas about how our students, as separate grade levels and/or across grade levels, can have a positive and enduring impact on our community, please reach out to me.
You should have received an email from Jeffco Public Schools asking you to respond to a survey about Wilmot. The survey is quick and your responses are confidential. We really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback about what we are doing well and areas where we can improve.
Thank you for choosing to be part of the Wilmot wildcats family! I’m looking forward to seeing students and families at school this week!

Principal, Wilmot Elementary

Our local Bee is THIS Tuesday Jan 28th at 1:15 in the afternoon.
The Mountain Area Bee will be on Wednesday, February 5th, 4:30pm, at Wilmot. The date changed slightly in order to accommodate our Advanced Band students who have rehearsal the following night.
The State Bee will be on Saturday March 8th at the University of Denver Campus in Strum Hall. There is also an online test that the contestants for state will have to take on Thursday Feb 20th. (no exceptions)
We are able to send the top 5 from Wilmot to the Mountain area Bee so we encourage everyone to participate.
Thank you for taking the time to help our spellers grow!
It is time for our annual bookmark contest! This year our theme is
Where the Wild Things Are!
Just like Maurice Sendak, you will create your own wild thing by creatively combining different animals.
Check out the video below for inspiration and don’t forget to name your wild thing!
PLEASE ONLY USE BLACK PENS.
NO COLOR ON ENTRY.
Bookmarks are due by Monday, Feb. 3 in the library.
All Students who submit a design will get a prize from Ms. Anderson. The winning designs will be made into bookmarks for the entire school!
We will have winners from each grade level.
In response to the wildfires in California, The Wilmot Community Action Team is collecting cash donations to support Mercy Chefs. This fabulous organization travels to places that have been hit by natural disasters. They have food trucks that provide free, hot meals for people who have lost everything. They also provide boxes of meals. They are currently in Los Angeles, feeding thousands of families. This video provides more information about all the things they do.
Each morning, from Friday, January 17- Friday, January 31, the CATs will set up donation containers for each classroom in the front hallway.
Kids will put bills - no coins, please - into their classroom's container.
The class that raises the most money will receive a popsicle party and an extra recess.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting all those who have lost everything from these devastating fires.

Dear Wilmot Families,
Some students are currently engaged with Mrs. Marcus in exciting "Passion Projects" where they are exploring their deepest interests and developing real-world skills. The projects are diverse and inspiring!
To help our students thrive, we need your support! We are seeking passionate and enthusiastic parents to volunteer as one-on-one mentors to guide students in developing their project ideas.
Here's how you can help:
Provide personalized guidance: Work directly with a student to help them overcome challenges, refine project goals and create a final product.
Offer valuable feedback: Share your expertise and provide constructive criticism to help students improve their projects.
Encourage and inspire: Offer words of encouragement and support to help students stay motivated and persevere.
No prior experience is necessary! We're looking for individuals with a passion for learning and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.
To volunteer, use this link to sign up for a time slot! All slots are from 8:05-8:55 am. Even a small amount of time can make a big difference in a student's life. We are grateful for any time you can spare!

Does your student ride the bus to Wilmot? Look for an email invitation from the Jeffco Transportation team for Stopfinder. What is Stopfinder? It is the all-in-one, easy-to-use app for viewing and sharing your student’s transportation schedule and peace of mind. Visit the Stopfinder webpage to learn more!
Round 2 of Open Enrollment for the 25-26 school year opened last Thursday, January 23rd. Round 1 lottery results will be sent to families this Tuesday, January 28th.
Visit www.enrolljeffco.org to let us know that you’re coming back for the 2025-26 school year. The earlier we know, the easier it is for the district to provide our school with all the tools and resources we need to provide a thriving experience for our students.
This week in the Library Mrs. Anderson had a book tasting event. Students got a "taste" of different genres to see what they might like. The book tasting was a wonderful way to get everyone engaged in reading and familiarize the students with a wide variety of genres. Thank you, Mrs. Anderson!
Kinder field trip to the Children's Museum

Calling All Local LEGO Artists!
My name is Mason Martin, an Evergreen high school senior and Lego artist. You can see some of my work on Flickr here. I am working with the Center for the Arts Evergreen (CAE) to produce an exciting upcoming Lego art show. This show serves as both my capstone project and an opportunity to showcase the creative potential of Lego as an artistic medium. I am thrilled to partner with CAE to bring this event to life and hope it will inspire artists and fans alike. We will also have a guest judge for the event - Aaron Newman, professional Lego artist currently working at Lego headquarters in Denmark.
The deadline for entry is 2/26 so time is of the essence. You can find the call for entries here and learn more about the art center here. Thank you so much for helping make this show a success!
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
With gratitude,
Mason Martin
