Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying this long weekend! There is no school tomorrow, Monday, February 19th in observance of Presidents’ Day. Thank you for taking the time to meet with teachers during parent-teacher conferences last week. I also want to thank all of the parents who contributed to providing meals for teachers during the week. Your kindness and generosity make such a difference!
Last Wednesday students really enjoyed an opportunity to check out fire trucks and ambulances and learn about fire safety courtesy of Evergreen Fire Rescue. As a part of our Love Our Community tradition, students made signs and cards to show their appreciation of our community firefighters, as well as other groups and organizations that make a positive difference in our Evergreen community every day.
Another fun activity last week was the kindergarten celebration of the 100th day of school. Many kids dressed up like they were 100 years old. Little kids dressed up with wigs, bald heads, glasses, canes, shawls and suspenders was about as cute as it gets!
Last, but certainly not least, I want to congratulate and recognize the Wilmot students who went onto the state competition for their interpretation of the PTA Reflections theme: I am hopeful because. . . Ava in 4th grade won a Gold Award for her dance choreography and is advancing to the national competition! In addition, 3rd graders Femka, Naomi, and Soren, 2nd grader Mariah, and first grader Manny all received Silver Awards in the state competition! We sure have some talented, creative students at Wilmot. If you would like to see their entries, please click the link below in the Wilmot Weekly.
Please see below for other happenings this week at Wilmot. I look forward to seeing you at school on Tuesday!

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
Dear Wilmot,
We are ramping up planning for our Spring Silent Auction and schoolwide dance (more info on that soon to be announced!).
However, in the meantime we are canvassing the community for two things:
Donation of an item or service to auction off at the online silent auction
Businesses to buy a table to promote your business during the school dance at the business expo in the cafeteria. We offer a discount to school clubs and non-profits!
See attached letter for more information. Let us know if you are willing to help with a donation by emailing wilmotpta@gmail.com. Feel free to help us collect items for the auction as well by sharing this letter with your networks.
Thank you!
