We were showered with kindness all week! Thank you PTA and Wilmot families for showing our Teachers & Staff SO much appreciation!
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms! I want to start by saying a big thank you to our PTA for providing treats and lunch in the teachers lounge in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week last week. We have the best PTA! As I shared last week, we really appreciate all of the parents and grandparents who volunteer in our school community as Watch Dogs, in classrooms, running with Mileage Club, attending field trips, and/or as members of PTA. Alongside our kind kids and dedicated teachers, you make Wilmot a warm and welcoming place to be!
Speaking of kind kids, we have a bunch of students who are invited to join us for announcements over the last two weeks of school: Oliver V., Rhett, Avery, and Zachary in kindergarten, Addy, Greyson, Finn, and Lucius in 1st grade, Oliver H, Sanders, Alice K, and Birdie in 2nd grade, Evin, Gunner, Grant B, and Soren R. in 3rd grade, Violet B, Garrett, Braden and Coco in 4th grade, and Julia, Lyla, Axel and Jillian in 5th grade. These students should come to the office first thing in the morning for announcements. In addition, our students filled the kindness jar again, earning another school-wide reward! On Tuesday, May 21st we will be having a whole school dance party AND handing out at least one new book to every student at Wilmot as a part of the Book Blast. We’re excited to be able to provide books for students to read over the summer through this program!
We have two weeks of school remaining so everyone is trying to squeeze in field trips and culminating performances. Please see below for information about field trips this week as well as band and orchestra rehearsals and concerts. Please help your child take a look around their room and the house for library books that need to be returned. If the book is lost, please let Ms. Mihalik know so she can add the lost book to your child’s fee sheet. We really appreciate parents paying any remaining fees for your child before the end of the school year. Please also check out the information below regarding continuation ceremonies for our preschool, kindergarten and 5th grade students planned for next week.
All 5th graders will be bringing their Chromebook home over the summer so they can take it to middle school with them in the fall. If you have a kindergarten through 4th grader, please take a few minutes to let us know if you would like your child to take a Chromebook home over the summer. We realize our families are in many different places when it comes to technology. For some families, limiting your child’s screen time and monitoring their activity on a school device can feel too cumbersome. For others, their child needs a school device to access reading and/or math programs to avoid “summer slide”. Other students need to be able to take their device to the Jeffco Reads summer program. Please take a moment to let us know your family's needs in this Google form: Summer Technology Access. In next week’s message I will be sharing info about a variety of resources students can access to keep their skills sharp and for enrichment over the summer.
Please check out the Wilmot Weekly for other happenings at school and around the community this week and through the summer. I look forward to seeing you at school this week!

If your student has medication in the health room, the Jeffco District Board Policy JLCD, states:
Unused medication: It is the responsibility of the parent to obtain all unused medication from the school when the medication is expired, discontinued, the school year ends, or the family transfers to another district. All medication left in the school under these circumstances will be disposed of using district guidelines and monitoring by the district RN.
This includes all prescription and over-the counter medications including but not limited to: cough drops, cough syrup, Tylenol, EpiPen (Do not pick up before 5/24), Inhaler (Do not pick up before 5/24), insulin, and any other injectable medications.
If you, as the parent, are not able to pick-up the medication in person, please call your district RN to discuss alternative arrangements.
If your child will be in summer school (JReads or ESY) this summer, please pick up the medication as noted above; the current medication agreement form will be copied and put in a Ziploc along with the medication. You will need to bring this Ziploc bag to your child’s first day of summer school at the site he/she is attending and check it in with the health aide.
Please pick up ALL medications by the last day of school which is May 24, 2024. All medications not picked up by the end of the school day on May 24th will be disposed of according to Jeffco policy. If you have any questions feel free to call Miss Joni in the office.
Also attached are Jeffco’s standard blank health forms. Please choose the appropriate one(s) for your student(s) and provide to your physician to complete over the summer for the 2024/25 school year. These forms can also be found on the school website: https://wilmot.jeffcopublicschools.org/family_resources/clinic_and_health_services

If you missed the recent presentation on "Supporting Your Growing Child," we wanted to share some of the resources for online safety because most youth start to get phones and gain more access to the internet in middle school.
CHEEZO, Jeffco's Child Sex Offender Internet Investigations Unit, recommends educating your child about online safety: (see attached flyer above)
-Only talk to people online that you know in real life from face to face interactions
-Don’t give out personal information (online gaming most common time)
-Don’t send pictures or money
-Disengage if you are experiencing harassment online and talk to an adult
-Limit time on devices (parents set boundaries)
Wait ‘til 8th Website- recommends waiting to get a smartphone until 8th grade
*Website offers explanation as to why it may be important to limit internet access and provides suggestions for alternatives to smartphones.

Curious about how math acceleration works in Jeffco and at Wilmot? Please see THIS LINK for details. If you have any further questions, contact us in the main office at Wilmot.
Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
Concert date: Thursday, may 23 at 7:30 pm
Location: central Presbyterian church
The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra has once again extended a special ticket pricing to our community for their May 23 concert! (discount code: CONIFER)
We had several families take advantage of this discount earlier this year and welcome everyone to check out an exceptional orchestra in our area.
Mr. Weedman regularly performs with the DPO and one of our band parents, responsible for getting the discount, also performs with the group.
These are top notch musicians and high-quality concerts. I recommend checking them out!
Another running opportunity is the EPRD Youth Trailing Running Class. The first of its kind, this class will teach our littlest trail runners all about the outdoor recreation hobby of trail running in a safe and fun environment. Participants will explore local Evergreen trails and get the chance to run wild with their peers after school! Registration is for ages 5 years old to 10 years old. Class is held on Tuesdays from school dismissal to 3:45pm from April 30- May 21. There is also an EPRD Youth Trail Run on May 18th that parents can join in on for no additional cost. This will be a great way to end the year actively and in conjunction with Mileage Club.
CATs end of year celebration. Thanks for all of your community service this year!
