Kinder Egg Drop
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
This is the week many of you and your child/children have been preparing for for quite some time - the Science and Engineering Fair, Colorado Characters, and the Wilmot Talent Show! The Colorado Measures of Academic Success testing also begins this week for grades 3-5. Thank you again for helping your child arrive at school on time and avoiding unnecessary absences. You can see the CMAS Schedule via the link, though small group and individual accommodations may be scheduled at other times.
As you may know, on April 8th between 11:30-1:50, a total solar eclipse will occur in parts of the country. Colorado will only experience a partial eclipse. We recognize the educational value of events like this and the excitement they generate in our community. While witnessing a solar eclipse can be an incredible experience, there is a potential for a significant risk to eye health. The harmful rays of the sun can cause permanent damage to the retina, especially during a partial eclipse when the sun is not fully obscured. Ensuring the safety of our students is our highest priority so we have decided not to organize a viewing event at school. Unfortunately, we do not have the necessary equipment or resources to ensure safe viewing for all children.
At the end of April, the Wilmot staff engages in a very deliberate and thoughtful process involving the classroom teachers, special education providers (if applicable), the specials (AMPs) team, paraprofessionals, and the principal to determine class lists for the following fall. The team considers each student individually, the dynamic of the classroom, and tries to create a balance of strengths and areas for growth across the classroom community. Parents are a valuable source of information in this process! If you would like to provide information about how your child learns best, please fill out this form: Student Information for Class Lists 24-25. Please note that responses will only be accepted between Monday, April 1st and Friday, April 12th.
On Friday, Ms. Danielle’s preschool class and Mrs. Richie’s second grade class enjoyed a PJ/Stuffy/Popsicle party because they had the most Watch Dog Volunteers in the month of March. Monday marks the start of the April contest. You can get access to the sign up by emailing wilmotwatchdogs@gmail.com.
We also enjoyed a school-wide kindness reward on Friday and I chose a new batch of kids to help with announcements this week. I hope to see the following students first thing in the office: Rhett and Griffin from kindergarten, Grant and Brielle from 1st grade, William and Saige from 2nd grade, Heidi and Logan from 3rd grade, Jonah and Aspen from 4th grade, and Reid and Graycin from 5th grade. Congrats to these students and to all of the Wilmot kids who earned kindness tickets to add to our jar in the office!
Please check out the Wilmot Weekly for other happenings this week. I look forward to seeing you at school this week!

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
Life is getting busy again with spring sports starting and the school calendar filling up. For new families who have never attended the annual Wilmot Spring Dance I wanted to give you an idea of what this tradition entails. This years theme is Friendship.
Do the kids actually dance?
We host the dance in the gym at the school, kids and dress up, wear costumes or come in the clothes they wore to school you will see a mix of all. Holly Karford the 5th grade teacher is our MC and DJ, she doesn't really take requests but each grade picks a song and learns a dance to go along with it. Each grade gets called to the dance floor and its an adorable show. The kids practice in the classrooms as their "brain breaks" leading up to April 19th.
What if my kid doesn't like to dance?
We will be offering craft stations for the students to grab kits and make beaded friendship bracelets in the cafeteria. They will be able to use the tables in the cafeteria and sit with friends. We will also have businesses in there who will be doing temporary tattoos, polaroid pictures, and other fun activities. In addition the local art school sponsors will have an area where the students have a chance to create a mural in the hallway outside the gym. This year we are offering a low sensory option sponsored by Seven Dimensions Behavioral Health for the kiddos ( and adults) in the library for those that don't do well with lots of chaos and noise in the dance.
Do we eat there or before we come?
There will be food trucks at the school to purchase food from. Slifes Devil Dogs and ? (were open to suggestions for another truck vendor) Girl scout troop 68222 will be selling root beer floats . Coffee and water will be available free of charge.
How can I help?
I thought you would never ask. Look for the attached sign up genius to get involved. We need parents to help create decorations and to oversee 5th graders who are working on a large scale "friendship silhouette " project leading up to the dance. We need ticket takers and help with set up and clean up. Each slot is about a 45 minute commitment and its a great way to show your kids you care, and to get involved in the Wilmot Community. You can also text or call Lindsay Atkinson 410-530-3388 to talk through where you can be the most helpful.

Is this a fundraiser?
It is! A silent auction is set up around the cafeteria for you to bid on. All the bidding is done online and allows you to track the bids or do a one time bid to ensure you get what you want. If you have anything you would like to donate ( a great bottle or wine, gift certificate to your business etc.. we would love that.)
Contact wilmotpta@gmail.com to donate and preview the silent auction items here (more items will be added through April 11th): Friendship Dance & Silent Auction - 2024
We all love our kids and we all want them to have a great school experience.

Dear Wilmot,
We are ramping up planning for our Spring Silent Auction and schoolwide dance (more info on that soon to be announced!).
However, in the meantime we are canvassing the community for two things:
Donation of an item or service to auction off at the online silent auction
Businesses to buy a table to promote your business during the school dance at the business expo in the cafeteria. We offer a discount to school clubs and non-profits!
See attached letter for more information. Let us know if you are willing to help with a donation by emailing wilmotpta@gmail.com. Feel free to help us collect items for the auction as well by sharing this letter with your networks.
Thank you!
