EMS Instrumental Music Showcase
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I’d like to start by celebrating the impressive achievement of our small but mighty Battle of the Books team, as well as the dedication of their sponsor, Mrs. Mihalik. Wilmot’s team earned 2nd place out of 36 teams! You can read more about this accomplishment and see a photo by scrolling down in the Weekly.
We were also fortunate to have a visit from the band and orchestra students at EMS last week. The students played beautifully, and Mr. Ackermann, the EMS music teacher, was on hand to answer questions. He mentioned that students can still join instrumental music in middle school, even if they didn’t participate in elementary school—something to keep in mind for any future musicians!
This week, leading up to spring break, is shaping up to be an eventful one. Construction on our new parking lot will begin tomorrow! You can find the plans and a breakdown of the steps for the initial phase by scrolling down in the Weekly. Once the work is completed, we’ll be updated on the next steps, including when the new parking area will be available for use by parents and staff. In the meantime, you can still park on the softball fields behind Wilmot. This is especially helpful for preschool parents picking up their child in the afternoon. Please remember that parking in the car line along the edge of the parking lot is not permitted for any length of time.
As I mentioned last week, Mrs. Piane and I met with representatives from the Evergreen Sustainability Alliance to discuss a new composting initiative. Tomorrow during lunch, an organization called We Don’t Waste will be at Wilmot to collect food scraps and talk with students as part of a waste audit. They’ll provide us with a detailed breakdown of the lunch waste at Wilmot, which we’ll share with the students. Several other local schools, including EMS, EHS, Parmalee, Ralston, and Evergreen Country Day, are also involved in this initiative. If you’re interested in helping create more opportunities for students to take leadership in environmental efforts at Wilmot, I’d love to connect—please feel free to email me.
I’d like to end this week’s update by expressing my gratitude for the trust you place in the staff at Wilmot to care for and educate your child every day. We are deeply committed to the success of all our students and to fostering a school community that is warm and welcoming to all families. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the Wilmot Wildcats family! I look forward to seeing you at school this week.

4th Grade Field Trip: Thursday, March 13th at 4 Mile Historic Park
There will be no school from Monday, March 17th through Monday, March 24th. Students will return to school on Tuesday, March 25th.
Congratulations to our Wilmot Battle of the Books Team, "The Wilmot Get-Along Gang," who placed 2nd in this year's competition, with 36 teams competing and over 780 5th graders reading! Go Wildcats!
Battle of the Books is open to 5th (and 4th grade understudies) who work as a team has to read 10 books across a variety of genres starting in October, take detailed notes, and quiz themselves regularly all while working on their teamwork skills to prepare for the school and district battles. Give these students a "Congratulations!" if you see them—they worked really hard!
A special shout-out goes to Ms. Mihalik for her battle coaching over the years—we are so grateful for all you do for our students and the Wilmot community, Ms. Mihalik!
5th Grade will be hosting a Bake Sale on Thursday, March 13th immediately after school. They will be raising money for their 5th grade legacy project. Please make sure to bring cash in support of our 5th graders!
Evergreen Parks and Rec is collaborating with Jeffco Open Space to change the fields behind Wilmot. Work on the parking lot is scheduled to begin on Monday 3/10. During this initial phase, they will be:
Removing roughly 20’ of chain-link fencing between the parking lot and current dirt road.
Installing temporary curb ramps to help accommodate for two way traffic over the current sidewalk/parking lot curb until a more permanent solution is established.
Expanding the width of the dirt road to allow for two way traffic.
Creating and establishing an entrance/exit to the new parking area.
Installing a median and signage within the parking area to establish a flow of traffic.
Once this work is complete, they will let us know next steps, including when the parking area will be ready for us to use.
Hello families! We are ready for another round of art club! The sign up will be released in the evening of March 16, but take a peek at the website to see the schedule and what we are making! There will be no 4th and 5th grade club as I am leading a mural club for the 5th grade legacy project during that time.
Hi families! The art room is looking for pinecone donations! If you are able, please search your yard for pinecones and fill up a bag for the art room! If you are feeling extra generous, I'd love help with chopping the pinecone into thirds, using a lopper, like the picture above. This can be done at home, or you're welcome to contact me and we can organize a cutting party in the art room! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Do you plan to volunteer at Wilmot, chaperone one of our filed trips, and/or be a guest reader? Please take a moment to fill out the Jeffco Person of Interest and Disclosure forms below. Forms and the $17.50 payment can be returned to Mrs. Allen in the main office.
Our middle school colleagues, who will be taking our current class of 5th graders to Outdoor Lab, need your help to win $1,000 from the Outdoor Lab Foundation. If our articulation area can add 24 of people to the Lab Card Program, the sixth-grade teachers will be entered to win one of five $1,000 prizes to be used for next year’s Outdoor Lab trip.
The Lab Card Program supports tuition assistance to ensure every sixth-grade student, regardless of financial capacity, can attend Outdoor Lab. To join the program, you simply need to link your King Sooper’s shopper’s card to the Outdoor Lab Foundation through the King Soopers Community Rewards Program. Visit the Foundation's website to find instructions. It takes about 3 minutes.
Once enrolled, any purchase moving forward with your Shopper’s Card will allocate a portion of King Soopers’s annual donation to the Outdoor Lab Foundation. The more people participating on behalf of the Outdoor Lab Foundation, the more money they can provide in tuition assistance to our students.
This is not only important for our families so that they can offset or eliminate a financial burden, but it is also important to your colleagues. This money can be used for various purposes such as booking engaging evening presenters for the students, paying for a sub day for lead teacher Outdoor Lab planning, buying supplies, etc.
Please take a few minutes to enroll yourself in the Lab Card Program and spread the word!

Due to Jefferson County experiencing an uptick in Norovirus and GI illnesses, we are sharing our "How sick is too sick" guidelines with our community. Please see the link below.
Per Colorado Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009-2, schools and child cares are required to directly distribute the Annual Immunization Compliance Parent Letter to the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of every enrolled student. We must distribute one letter for K-5 and one for Preschool. Please find both letters linked below.
Round 2 of Open Enrollment for the 25-26 school year opened Thursday, January 23rd. Initial Round 1 lottery results were sent to families last week. Please reach out to the main office with any questions you have about enrollment for next year.
Visit www.enrolljeffco.org to let us know that you’re coming back for the 2025-26 school year. The earlier we know, the easier it is for the district to provide our school with all the tools and resources we need to provide a thriving experience for our students.
Congratulations to our Mountain Area Science Fair winners!
