Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Thank you for trusting us with your children and choosing to be a member of our Wilmot community!
Report cards for our kindergarten through 5th grade students came home in Friday folders on November 17th. This is a great time to review the report card with your child, celebrate achievements and look for places to set goals. Please remove the report card and other items from the envelope, sign to acknowledge you received it, and then send the empty envelope back to school on Monday.
The three weeks between Thanksgiving and winter break is a very busy time of year and on that note, there are a few important events to add to your family calendar. Next week is filled with Mountain Area Band and Orchestra rehearsals and concerts each evening for our 4th and 5th graders. Please see the calendar below for more specific information about time and place. In addition, Tuesday, December 5th marks the opening of Enroll Jeffco for the 24-25 school year. Letting us know early whether your child/children will be returning to Wilmot allows us to more accurately predict our budget and plan appropriately for staffing. We also appreciate your willingness to talk with friends and neighbors about Wilmot. We have a kindergarten information night on Wednesday of this week and we offer personalized tours for families interested in learning more about our special community.
Looking out a bit further, there is an assessment day on Friday, December 8th so students will only attend for a portion of the day. I will share a link to a Sign-up Genius in next week’s Wilmot Weekly. In addition, we have a Winter Concert for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders coming up the second week in December. Rehearsal is planned for Wednesday, December 13th and the concert is on Thursday, December 14th. Students attend on Monday and Tuesday of the following week and then winter break starts on Wednesday, December 20th. If your family is leaving early for winter break, please fill out an extended absence form in the office.
Lastly, I would like to give another reminder about car line rules during drop off and pick up each day. Please do not park in the drop off/pick up lane along the edges of the parking lot. Doing so creates back ups and frustration. We regret that our parking lot is so small and it is often very difficult to find a spot. Most of our staff park either in the garden lot or behind the school to leave as many spots in the actual lot as possible for parents, but unfortunately, it still isn’t enough. Parents are welcome to park in the lot near the community garden or pull through the fence at the end of the parking lot to park down on the ball field if spaces are not available in the regular lot. Thank you for working with us to make drop off and pick up as easy as possible for everyone!
I’m looking forward to seeing you at school!

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
We are so excited to share what makes Wilmot such a special place to learn and grow with our community.
If you have an incoming kindergartener or know of families within our community that are looking for a supportive group of educators that "Feels Like Family", please invite them to join us on November 29th from 5pm-6pm.
Here's what the Wilmot Warblers did for Veterans Day!
In music class, we made "Hero" stars, decorated by students. We also got 100 bags, and had those decorated by students as well.
Sierra and Adelynn Holtmann, Maddie and Olivia Williams, and Heidi Read stuffed the bags with the stars and at least 5 pieces of candy donations. We provided 104 bags! We took bags of candy to the nurses stations, too.
The Warblers sang patriotic songs at Elk Run and Life Care Center on the 11th. One of the residents was a retired Wilmot teacher who was here the day the doors opened. There were also three WW2 vets, one of which was 101 years old. There were tears!
Mrs. Holtmann and Mrs. Shama-Hanna delivered the remaining art pieces, letters and cards made by our students to the Golden VA clinic, and to the Golden VFW.
Thank you, teachers and students, for the many beautiful things the students made. Each one was put into deserving hands.
The Warblers are working hard, preparing for their Winter Program on December 14th. The Winter Program Information was sent home in this linked flyer. We can't wait to see you there!
Our lost and found bins are overflowing! Please take a moment when you are in the building to look through all of our items. The lost and found is located down near the cafeteria. Small items and jewelry are kept in the office. All items not claimed prior to Winter Break will be donated.
Please see this attached letter from our milk provider, Meadow Gold Dairies re: shortages we have been experiencing and will likely continue to experience into the holiday season. We will continue to keep school sites up to date as best we can as the situation evolves.
Our next project will be our annual coat drive for Coats for Colorado from October 19-November 30. Coats are being collected in bins under the CATs bulletin board in the front hall. They will be periodically taken to Dependable Cleaners in Bergen, where they will be cleaned and given to families in need. We will keep a running tally of our total number of coats collected. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep kids and families warm this winter!
