Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for their donation to Wilmot's special education programs!
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you’re enjoying this first weekend of May. On Friday, the Wilmot staff welcomed back the graduating seniors who attended Wilmot. Please see the pictures at the bottom of the Wilmot Weekly. It was a great turn out and highlighted the impact that our teachers and Wilmot community have on our students. This is National Teacher Appreciation week. Please join me in thanking all of your child’s teachers for their dedication and for making Wilmot a great place for kids to learn and grow!
Mileage Club started up this past week and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays for two more weeks. Please help ensure your child has the proper footwear to participate if they so choose. Kids run around a course at recess, volunteers log their laps, and they receive little feet that can be added to their Mileage Club necklace. Please consider signing up to volunteer for one or more blocks of time on this sheet: Mileage Club Volunteers. Thank you for making Mileage Club a fun success!
During the month of April, we had a three-way tie for Watch Dog volunteers: Mr. Woody Martin, Mr. Clay Demler, and Mr. Roger Miles. Coming in at a close second was Mr. Jeff Shappard. We also want to celebrate the parents of preschooler, Jaxon Rios. Both his mom and dad are new Watch Dog volunteers! We're going to celebrate with a popsicle party and extra recess in all of the classes that have kids attached to these volunteers: Ms. Danielle, Ms. Lindsay, Professor Langton, Mrs. Richie, Mrs. Tenpenny, Mrs. Holtmann, Mr. DeBonis, and Mrs. Benton. These teachers will be taking their class out for an extra recess and having a popsicle party this week. I also want to say a big thank you to all of the parents who have served as Watch Dogs this year and/or volunteered in classrooms and with PTA. Alongside our kind kids and dedicated teachers, you make Wilmot a warm and welcoming school community!
There are a few important events to note for this week and as we near the end of the year. On Wednesday, students who have an Advanced Learning Plan will be sharing their passion projects in the Wilmot library from 12:30-2:30. On Thursday, Evergreen Middle School will be hosting their Futures Night for our 5th grade families. Lastly, Friday is the due date for returning all library books. If the book is lost, please let Mrs. Mihalik know so she can add the lost book to your child’s fee sheet. We really appreciate parents paying any remaining fees for your child before the end of the school year. Please check out the pictures and information Wilmot Weekly for other happenings this week. I look forward to seeing you at school!

It is time to get ready for SUMMER BREAK!
If your student has medication in the health room, the Jeffco District Board Policy JLCD, states: Unused medication: It is the responsibility of the parent to obtain all unused medication from the school when the medication is expired, discontinued, the school year ends, or the family transfers to another district. All medication left in the school under these circumstances will be disposed of using district guidelines and monitoring by the district RN.
This includes all prescription and over-the counter medications including but not limited to: cough drops, cough syrup, Tylenol, EpiPen, inhaler, insulin, and any other injectable medications.
If you, as the parent, are not able to pick-up the medication in person, please call your district RN to discuss alternative arrangements.
If your child will be in summer school (JReads or ESY) this summer, please pick up the medication as noted above; the current medication agreement form will be copied and put in a Ziploc along with the medication. You will need to bring this Ziploc bag to your child’s first day of summer school at the site he/she is attending and check it in with the health aide.
Please pick up ALL medications by the last day of school which is May 24, 2024. All medications not picked up by the end of the school day on May 24th will be disposed of according to Jeffco policy. If you have any questions feel free to call your school health Aide at the following number: 303-982-5370
Thank you and have a good summer!

Curious about how math acceleration works in Jeffco and at Wilmot? Please see THIS LINK for details. If you have any further questions, contact us in the main office at Wilmot.
Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.

Thank you for supporting the Wilmot PTA!
Concert date: Thursday, may 23 at 7:30 pm
Location: central Presbyterian church
The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra has once again extended a special ticket pricing to our community for their May 23 concert! (discount code: CONIFER)
We had several families take advantage of this discount earlier this year and welcome everyone to check out an exceptional orchestra in our area.
Mr. Weedman regularly performs with the DPO and one of our band parents, responsible for getting the discount, also performs with the group.
These are top notch musicians and high-quality concerts. I recommend checking them out!
Another running opportunity is the EPRD Youth Trailing Running Class. The first of its kind, this class will teach our littlest trail runners all about the outdoor recreation hobby of trail running in a safe and fun environment. Participants will explore local Evergreen trails and get the chance to run wild with their peers after school! Registration is for ages 5 years old to 10 years old. Class is held on Tuesdays from school dismissal to 3:45pm from April 30- May 21. There is also an EPRD Youth Trail Run on May 18th that parents can join in on for no additional cost. This will be a great way to end the year actively and in conjunction with Mileage Club.
