Teachers attending the CCIRA Literacy Conference in Denver
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I want to start by recognizing the accomplishments of 5 of our Wilmot students who participated in the Mountain Area Spelling Bee this past week. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of a crowd by yourself and all of our participants showed grace under pressure! Wilmot was well represented in the top three finishers. Lucian L. in 4th grade finished 1st, Evelyn A. also in 4th grade finished 2nd, and Cullen D. a 6th grader who attended Wilmot finished 3rd!
This week at Wilmot we have parent teacher conferences Monday through Thursday evenings. Friday is a workday for teachers and many have chosen to hold conferences that morning as well. If you haven’t had an opportunity to sign up for a conference, it’s not too late! Please see the link below to access the sign-up genius. If your child’s teacher does not have any time slots that fit your schedule, please reach out to them directly to find a good time to meet on another day. PTA and parents are generously providing meals for teachers during this week of really long days. There are still opportunities to sign up to bring something via the link below. We are all really grateful for your willingness to donate your time and effort to bring food!
Also this week are our Valentine’s and Love our Community activities and parties at school on Wednesday. Students are making cards and posters to shower some of our local organizations with love. Evergreen Fire Rescue is coming on Wednesday morning to show kids their fire truck and ambulance and talk with them about fire safety. They are also one of the organizations we will be recognizing with cards to let them know how much we appreciate all that they do to keep us safe! Classroom parties will be from 1:20-2:20 on Wednesday. Parents are invited to join their child’s class after you sign in at the office.
I look forward to seeing you this week at school!

Hello Wonderful Wilmot Community,

Wilmot Wildcats have been focusing on kindness this month. Students are earning kindness tickets to fill up a jar. Once the jar is filled, there will be a fun, schoolwide reward. Here are some resources to share with your family to help promote kindness.
Our 5th graders are selling Val-o-grams to fundraise for their 5th Grade Legacy Project benefitting the Wilmot library!
What is the 5th Grade Legacy Project? The 5th Grade Legacy Project is a special Wilmot tradition in which the current 5th grade class works to raise money to fund a project that will leave a positive “legacy” at the school. Some examples of previous legacy projects are the ever-popular Gaga Ball pit, the rockscaping behind the school that replaced the “mud pit”, and the beautiful mural wall near the basketball courts. This year’s project is exciting library upgrades and improvements that the entire school will enjoy for generations to come!
What are Val-o-grams? They are fun, friendly greetings for friends and Wilmot staff that cost $1 each and include an allergy-friendly treat! 5th graders will deliver Val-o-grams to classrooms during the Valentine's Day parties at school.
How do I purchase Val-o-grams? The 5th graders will be selling Val-o-grams in-person on the following days:
Monday, 2/12 before school
Tuesday, 2/13 before school
You can also buy your Val-o-grams online here until NOON on Tuesday, 2/13 - https://wilmot.memberhub.com/store/items/978925
Spring picture day will be Wednesday, February 28th. Class pictures will be taken on this day. Families who would like individual photos of their child can place orders through Lifetouch as well. Individual photos will only be taken for students with orders requested.
The Family Survey is now open. Families were sent a seperate email from Jeffco Public Schools with details. If you have not already, please use this link to fill out the survey. It will be open through Friday, February 23rd.

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted a new math resource for our kindergarten through 12th grade students. For many years, children in the United States have lagged behind children in other countries in math achievement. Research about the way other countries teach math has given us a window into why. Countries that consistently outperform the US emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization. In addition, struggling is not seen as a failure, but a path to deeper understanding. Illustrative Math grew out of what researchers learned about how other countries successfully teach mathematics. We understand that making this shift feels uncomfortable to parents (and teachers) who themselves learned math through memorization and repetition, but we believe this is a worthwhile change that will lead to deeper understanding and better outcomes for our children. To help parents better understand the change and support their children, we've included several online resources here. The videos are especially helpful! Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have additional questions or for more links to grade-specific resources.
Dear Wilmot,
We are ramping up planning for our Spring Silent Auction and schoolwide dance (more info on that soon to be announced!).
However, in the meantime we are canvassing the community for two things:
Donation of an item or service to auction off at the online silent auction
Businesses to buy a table to promote your business during the school dance at the business expo in the cafeteria. We offer a discount to school clubs and non-profits!
See attached letter for more information. Let us know if you are willing to help with a donation by emailing wilmotpta@gmail.com. Feel free to help us collect items for the auction as well by sharing this letter with your networks.
Thank you!
