Hello Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying this long weekend! All of the teachers at Wilmot want to say a huge THANK YOU to PTA and the parents for the meals you provided last week during conferences. We all appreciate it so much! It’s hard to believe we only have four weeks until spring break - there’s lots of important learning to do during that time.
I am excited to share that Jefferson County (the county proper, not the school district) has received a grant to enhance the walkability of the area around Wilmot by adding sidewalks and crosswalks. The project will happen over the summer. I met with the engineers in charge of this project to discuss ways to enhance safety and the accessibility of the path for Wilmot students should we need to evacuate to Evergreen High School. You can view the drawings of the largest part of the project via this link: Wilmot Walkability
Like all schools in Jeffco, Wilmot is required to do two safety drills in addition to our monthly fire drills. In the fall we did a lockdown drill. Coming up on Monday, February 27th, we will work with the Department of Safety and Security to do a Shelter in Place drill. Although we don’t have many tornadoes up here, the procedure for this drill resembles that of a tornado drill. We will gather in the lower part of the building, away from windows and doors. It is short and doesn’t tend to make kids feel worried because we connect it to potential weather events.
Please note these important dates for upcoming events:

The Mountain Area Young Writers Conference is BACK! The event will be held March 30th from 6:30-8:30 at Marshdale Elementary. Students will need to create a piece of original writing before the event and then will be able to share their writing in a small group led by a mountain area teacher. Students can bring a short story, book, graphic novel, etc. During student share time, parents will have an opportunity to join in a parent learning session of their choice. Families will also have an opportunity to learn from our featured author, Jefferson Knapp. Thank you to our PTA for supporting this annual event! If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Area - kelly.area@jeffco.k12.co.us
