Wilmot Science Fair
Hello Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
The Wilmot Science and Engineering Fair went well this week. We have 14 students progressing to the Mountain Area Science Fair! Thank you to PTA member Katarina Nelson for all of the work she did to make this event possible.
On Friday our second graders shared their Pollinator Presentations. They started by singing a song about pollination and pollinators and then shared their paper or digital presentations with parents and other Wilmot students. Everyone was really impressed by their learning and by the high quality of their work. Way to go second graders!
We start this week with Den Groups on Monday, the Battle of the Books competition and the Growing and Changing 5th grade parent meeting on Thursday, and report cards coming home on Friday. Also coming home is an updated fee sheet. If you haven’t already done so, please pay your child’s fees, including those for field trips, by logging into the parent portal or by sending in a check made payable to Wilmot. Any unpaid fees come directly out of Wilmot’s budget and, thus, decrease what we can spend on paraprofessional support and materials that support learning for all students. Friday is also the deadline to sign up to participate in the digital Wilmot Talent Show.
There are several events and deadlines to note in the information below. If you would like to order a Day Without Hate t-shirt for your child/children and/or yourself, please be sure to return the order form with payment by Monday, March 13th. The fourth graders will be presenting their Colorado Character’s on Thursday, March 16th in the evening. The 16th is also the last day to claim any lost and found items before they are given to charity on Friday, March 17th. Lastly, Wilmot is looking for parents who would like to join our team (see below for more information) and the PTA is looking for a dedicated parent to serve as PTA President for a one or two year term. If you are interested, please send an email to wilmotpta@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support and partnership in your child's education!
In observance of National Youth Art Month, Shadow Mountain Gallery in downtown Evergreen will be displaying student artwork from 6 local elementary schools. The show will run from March 3 through March 26.

I am excited to share that Jefferson County (the county proper, not the school district) has received a grant to enhance the walkability of the area around Wilmot by adding sidewalks and crosswalks. The project will happen over the summer. I met with the engineers in charge of this project to discuss ways to enhance safety and the accessibility of the path for Wilmot students should we need to evacuate to Evergreen High School. You can view the drawings of the largest part of the project via this link: Wilmot Walkability
The Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. The signs of crisis are all around us and quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.
QPR for parents/caregivers teaches people to:
Recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis
How to ask someone directly if they are feeling suicidal
How to refer someone to help
The next virtual training offered through Jeffco Public Schools is THIS Wednesday, March 8 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Space is limited so register now to reserve your spot.
If you or someone you know is in need of a mental health provider, please refer to this mountain area resource list.
