Spelling Bee!
Hello Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
It was great to have students all five days this week! We had so many students who qualified for the spelling bee that was held on Monday - that was a celebration in and of itself. Congratulations to the five students, Coraline, Cullen and Ruby in 5th grade, August in 4th grade, and Lucian in 3rd grade, who qualified for the Mountain Area Spelling Bee that will occur on Thursday, February 2nd at 4:00 at Bergen Valley Elementary!
This upcoming week is a busy one! Registration is now open for the 2023 Young Writers’ Conference. Please see below for more information and a link to the sign up. We also have kindergarten and fourth grade going on field trips this Wednesday and a late start on Thursday, February 2nd. On that day, school will start at 10:45.
Please keep an eye out for an email from Jeffco with a link to a family survey that opens on Monday, January 30th. The feedback you provide helps us know what we are doing well and where we can improve. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey before it closes on March 3rd. If you have questions about Wilmot or district resources, please visit the Important Links section at the bottom of the Parent Wilmot Weekly. There are links to the parent portal, school cafe, and Wilmot Family Calendar, as well as information about Parent Rights in schools, what to do if you have a concern, and safety and security information.
Looking out a bit further, parent-teacher conferences will be the week of February 13th. The Sign-Up Genius for conferences will be available by Monday, February 6th. On Tuesday the 14th, Valentine's parties are scheduled from 2:30-3:30. In order to be designated a Healthy School, 50% of the food provided at the parties should be healthy. If your child chooses to pass out Valentines, please be sure they make one for everyone in their class. Please see below for more information about the collection, letters, and Valograms sale.
Lastly, I would like to remind everyone that the two handicapped parking spots and the area between them in our parking lot is a no parking zone unless you have a handicapped placard or license plate. The reason for this is to allow our handicapped students, staff and parents extra room to exit their vehicles. Thank you for being mindful of keeping these spaces available for those who need them even on snowy days.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
4th Grade: Butterfly Pavilion - Wednesday, Feb. 1st

The Mountain Area Safety Meeting was held last Tuesday, January 24th at Conifer High School. Jeffco's Department of Security and Emergency Management were there, as well as representatives from our local fire departments and Jeffco Sherriff's Office. In addition to the information presented, parents had an opportunity to ask questions. A video of the presentation was taken. Once we receive the go-ahead from Jeffco Security, we can share the video with parents who request it.
The Mountain Area Young Writers Conference is BACK! The event will be held March 30th from 6:30-8:30 at Marshdale Elementary. Students will need to create a piece of original writing before the event and then will be able to share their writing in a small group led by a mountain area teacher. Students can bring a short story, book, graphic novel, etc. During student share time, parents will have an opportunity to join in a parent learning session of their choice. Families will also have an opportunity to learn from our featured author, Jefferson Knapp. Thank you to our PTA for supporting this annual event! If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Area - kelly.area@jeffco.k12.co.us

The Wilmot Community Action Team will be sponsoring a fundraiser for Mercy Chefs from January 9 - February 3. Since 2006, this organization has traveled to places that have been devastated by storms all over the country, and all over the world. They are even supporting people in Ukraine. They feed thousands of people at a time from their food trucks. They provide hot, satisfying meals to those who have lost everything. They also have many community kitchens in areas where people need support. In addition, they work to feed the 1 in 4 children in the USA who do not have enough to eat due to food insecurity issues.
