Garden Observations
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
This week brings one of my favorite fall traditions, field day! If you’re new to Wilmot, we do field day in the fall because the weather is more predictable and it’s great for building classroom spirit. The events will start soon after the second bell rings on Thursday. It’s important for students to remember to wear athletic shoes and sunscreen and to bring a water bottle and hat. If students are not wearing athletic shoes, they will not be able to participate in many of the events including the Tug-O-War. Parents are welcome to be spectators to cheer kids on in the morning or during the Tug-O-War in the afternoon!
The other one of my favorite fall traditions is the Bandana Day school carnival coming up on Friday, September 27th. This carnival has been going on at Wilmot each fall for over 50 years! It is run completely by volunteers so please donate a half hour of your time to help make the carnival a success. Please also take a moment to check out the PTA information below to learn how you can support and buy tickets for Bandana Day, as well as how your child can enter the chalk art context, where to purchase Wilmot Wear, and how to enter the Reflections competition.
Do you have any used sports equipment that you would like to donate to Wilmot? We are looking for activities that students can play in pairs - such as playing catch with lacrosse balls and sticks or with catching mitts and softballs, throwing a frisbee, etc. If you have other ideas of games students could play, please let me know. We’re hoping to collect these items and then give students the opportunity to sign up to use the equipment during their midday recess.
Lastly, the Jefferson County Sheriff's office is setting up a speed trap on Buffalo Park Road in response to safety concerns. An officer was at the intersection of Buffalo Park and Hatch on Thursday and clocked most drivers exceeding the speed limit by 10 to 30 miles per hour. Speeding in a school zone results in a double fine - so that means a fine of $320 for 10 mph over and $450 for 20 mph over. The officers will be out in "full force" on Monday and Tuesday of this coming week so be sure to go the speed limit!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing you at school this week!

Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well! The Wilmot PTA is gearing up for our longstanding annual fall event, Bandana Day 2024. We are in need of several committee members to help make Bandana Day a success.
Specifically, we are looking for 2-3 preschool parents who can oversee the Preschool Entertainment Committee. The committee's main tasks include checking on the little bouncy house and games they already have in the PTA shed, ensuring everything is there and in good shape. On the day of the event, Friday, September 27th from 4:30 PM - 7 PM, committee members would need to be present from 4-7 PM. You can choose to split up the shifts or be there together for the entire time.
Please note that there are already volunteers signed up to run the games (we are always looking for more, signup link to volunteer day of is here) and assist the preschoolers, so your role would mainly involve overseeing the setup and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
If any parents are interested, you can sign up using this link. For any questions, you can email wilmotpta@gmail.com. To access the PTA shed, you can reach out to Jenny Sacks at jbud07@gmail.com.
This event only happens with your help, if we don't have the volunteers, we will have to close games. This is a great way to get involved with your child and support Wilmot, they are only young once..... Thank you so much for your support and for help making this event a fantastic experience for our preschoolers!

Being a Part of the Wilmot Community - Volunteer Opportunities
PTA and overall Wilmot programming want to gauge how we can best set parents and caregivers up for success in learning more about special events and volunteering at Wilmot. We also would love to know where volunteer interest is focused (and where we might have gaps). Please fill out this quick form to help us set this year up for success.
Does your student ride the bus to Wilmot? Look for an email invitation from the Jeffco Transportation team for Stopfinder. What is Stopfinder? It is the all-in-one, easy-to-use app for viewing and sharing your student’s transportation schedule and peace of mind. Visit the Stopfinder webpage to learn more!
The Stopfinder app will activate for Wilmot families on September 30th!
Destination Imagination (DI) is an internationally renowned extracurricular competition that challenges students to use their imagination and innovative thinking to solve complex problems in various STEAM topics. DI is sponsored by the Jeffco School’s Gifted and Talented Department but is open to all Jeffco students. DI’s mission is to prepare Colorado kids to be the innovators of the future by combining the arts, sciences and technology with creativity, teamwork and problem solving.
Our goal is to get the word out to all of our Jeffco families and to have students from Jeffco schools participate. We will be hosting an all Jeffco Parent Information Night on Zoom on September 24th. We have attached an Informational Flyer that contains all of the information parents will need to join the Zoom Info Night.
