A beautiful day for a Fire Drill!
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you're having a great weekend and enjoying the beautiful weather! It's hard to believe there is just one more week until Thanksgiving break. Thank you in advance for reading and/or listening to my long message this week. Wednesday of this week is the Jeffco Day of Gratitude. Students will see a variety of resources and inspirational videos about the power of focusing on gratitude. They will also be recording something they are grateful for on a sticky note that we will use to create a window mural.
In the spirit of gratitude, I shared a message with staff this week about all of the great things happening at Wilmot. I also want to take some time to celebrate and express my appreciation for the many ways you as parents contribute to our Wilmot community. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home and supporting your child’s teacher through volunteering in class and/or on field trips. Thank you for talking with your child/children about treating others with kindness and respect and reinforcing our Wilmot GIRR. Thank you for volunteering to be a “Wildcat Watcher” during arrival or dismissal to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you for supporting the efforts of our wonderful PTA through membership, volunteering for events, and serving as a room parent. You are such a big part of what makes Wilmot a warm and welcoming school community!
This week we are looking forward to an ice cream social at The Creamery on Wednesday evening from 5-8pm. We are also excited about the music performances this Thursday evening. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students should arrive at 5:00pm and will perform until 5:30pm. Third through fifth graders and the Wilmot Warblers choir members should arrive by 5:30pm and will perform until 6:30pm.
The Coats for Colorado collection is coming to a close this Friday. Please encourage your child to check out the lost and found before the end of the week. You can also take a peek when you come for the music performances. Any unclaimed coats or snow pants will be given to Coats for Colorado and other items to charity at the end of the day on Friday. Friday is also the day when trimester 1 report cards will be sent home in your child's Friday folder.
I need to ask your help with some challenges we’re having with dismissal. Unfortunately, as soon as some students exit the building, they become so focused on playing catch or tag, throwing snowballs, or running into the grassy interior of the bus circle that they are being unsafe and not listening to the school personnel who are out there to facilitate carline and bus departure. Please consider talking with your child about the following expectations:
Students waiting in the carline should be standing in line, listening to adults, and ready to get into their car. They may only play on the playground if their parent or guardian is present to supervise.
Footballs and other balls must be held or placed in a student's backpack. There will be no playing catch during dismissal. Unfortunately, balls are going into the parking lot or bus loop, and/or students and adults are getting hit with the balls or by other students as they maneuver to catch a ball.
Students are not allowed in the inner part of the bus circle unless accompanied by a parent. Crossing the bus circle is not safe at this time of day.
Students may not play tag or ride bikes on the sidewalk or lawn at dismissal. Unfortunately, students are running into adults and knocking down younger children while playing tag.
Rules about snow at dismissal are the same as they are during recess. While on school property, snow stays on the ground. Throwing snowballs at one another will result in a consequence the following school day.
We really appreciate your support with ensuring students are safe and dismissal runs smoothly for students, parents, bus drivers, and staff!
My next parent communication will be sent on December 1st. I hope you have a great rest of your weekend and a wonderful Thanksgiving next week. I’m looking forward to seeing you at school!

So grades K-2 will perform from 5:10-5:30 with an arrival time of 5:00. Grades 3-5 and choir will perform from 5:45-6:30 with an arrival time of 5:30. Each class or grade level will perform one song to show what they have been doing in music so far this year. We will go in order of grade level with Kindergarten, first, and second for the first show and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and the Wilmot Warblers for the final show. Of course you are welcome to stay for the whole show and if you have siblings in both groups you will get to see it all 🙂

Attention Preschool Parents
Changes to preschool early/breakfast drop off
In order to ensure we can maintain the proper ratio and supervision for our preschool students during breakfast, they must be in the cafeteria by 7:30 am. The doors will be closed at 7:30. Families who arrive after the doors are closed at 7:30 will need to wait for the typical drop off at 7:50 at the classroom door.
Thank you for helping us keep our preschoolers safe!
The Wilmot Community Action Team is supporting Coats for Colorado! So far we have donated 41 coats to families in need. We will be collecting coats AND SNOWPANTS until Friday, November 22. Donations will be taken to Dependable Cleaners in Bergen Park, where they will be cleaned and distributed via 120 organizations in the Denver area.

Thank you for your generosity!
Students in all classes, PK-5, enjoy access to the library every week! Students need to return their books before checking out new ones. You can contact Ms. Anderson at lindsay.anderson2@jeffco.k12.co.us to ask about which books your child might have checked out, or to ask about library fines for lost or damaged books. Thank you for helping grow your child's love of reading!
For our December PTA meeting, we’re excited to try something new. We’re hosting a cookie exchange and end-of-semester celebration, and we’ve also moved the meeting to a later time (after dinner) to better accommodate family schedules.
