STEM Robots!
Hello Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
Our preschool through 5th grade students had an amazing time exploring coding with robots this week. Thank you, Mrs. Mihalik for making this fun learning possible!
The Wilmot Science and Engineering Fair is coming up this week at Wilmot. Students who are participating should head to the cafeteria to drop off their project as soon as they arrive at school on Wednesday. We are still in need of volunteers to help with check in on Wednesday morning and with judging the projects. Please see below for more information and a link to sign up to volunteer.
This Monday, February 27th, is our Shelter in Place drill. Although we don’t have many tornadoes up here, the procedure for this drill resembles that of a tornado drill. We will gather in the lower part of the building, away from windows and doors. It is short and doesn’t tend to make kids feel worried because we connect it to potential weather events.
Day Without Hate is coming up at the end of April. This is a student-led, grassroots organization that promotes nonviolence, respect and unity within our schools. Wilmot celebrates this day by asking everyone in the school community to wear white or, if you would like to order one, a Day Without Hate t-shirt. An order form will be coming home in your child’s Friday folder on March 3rd. Orders and payment are due on Monday, March 13th. Please note that students can still show their support by wearing white - ordering a t-shirt is completely optional.
PTA is looking for a dedicated parent to serve as PTA President for a one or two year term. If you are interested, please send an email to wilmotpta@gmail.com. This edition of the Parent Wilmot Weekly is pretty long, but please take just a few minutes to scroll through for information about working at Wilmot, the amazing Wilmot Talent Show, and more!
Our Wilmot Green Team will be going to NREL this Tuesday, February 28th.
Do you love working with kids? Are you looking for a job with similar hours and days as your own kiddos? We have 3 new paraprofessional positions that have opened for our school and would love to have you join our team. Interested applicants can apply on the Jeffco Jobs Board now.
3.5 hrs./day (3rd Grade)
6.5 hrs./day (kindergarten)
7.0 hrs./day (ASD Room)

Here's some basic info about volunteering:
Assisting: Check in is first thing in the morning on Wednesday, March 1. There are a variety of ways to sign up to help beyond check in, so check out the survey if you want to help in any other ways too.
Judging: The judging of projects will take place throughout the day on Wednesday, March 1. Depending on how many projects we have and how many judges, you can expect the judging time commitment to be 1-2 hours, and I can assign projects based on availability provided in the survey.
More information is provided in the survey, and even more details will be emailed to respondents as they sign up for different ways to help. A preliminary schedule/plan will be sent over the weekend and a final will be sent on Monday.
So, if you are interested in judging some science and engineering fair projects or otherwise assisting with this amazing event, please fill out this form:

I am excited to share that Jefferson County (the county proper, not the school district) has received a grant to enhance the walkability of the area around Wilmot by adding sidewalks and crosswalks. The project will happen over the summer. I met with the engineers in charge of this project to discuss ways to enhance safety and the accessibility of the path for Wilmot students should we need to evacuate to Evergreen High School. You can view the drawings of the largest part of the project via this link: Wilmot Walkability
