Kindness and Inclusion - The heart of Wilmot
Dear Wonderful Wilmot Parents,
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weekend. It looks like a snowy week coming up so please make sure your child brings their snow gear to school for recess. Thank you for helping your child remember to wear their Wilmot gear on Friday. We enjoyed time with study buddies and took a special picture to show the heart of Wilmot. If you scroll down, you can also see pictures of students in Mrs. Tenpenny’s class showing the kindness rocks that they made and placed around the school, as well as students’ science fair projects on display. Congratulations to the many students who have projects moving on to the Mountain Area Science Fair!
Last Friday we had a visit from the principal, Mr. Vialpando, and the counselors at Evergreen Middle School. They met with our 5th graders to answer questions and share some of the exciting opportunities awaiting them in middle school. Coming up on May 12th, the 5th graders from Wilmot will join students from other elementary schools who will be matriculating to EMS for a day trip up to Mt. Blue Sky Outdoor Lab School. They will be joined by the 6th grade team from EMS to meet new teachers and make new friends to ease the transition. On the same day, students who will be attending West Jeff Middle School will have a similar experience with other 5th graders up at Windy Peak Outdoor Lab School. I fondly remember my experience as a 6th grader at Outdoor Lab and I am so grateful that we continue to offer this unique experience for all Jeffco 6th graders!
Mrs. Piane and I met with representatives from Evergreen Sustainability Alliance about a new composting initiative. On Monday, March 10th we will have an organization called We Don't Waste collecting food scraps and talking with students during lunch as a part of an audit. They will provide a breakdown of the waste Wilmot produces during lunch that we can then share with students. Several other schools in the area are invested in this initiative including EMS, EHS, Parmalee, Ralston, and Evergreen Country Day. I am hoping to recreate the Wilmot Green Team to offer leadership opportunities for students to be involved in this work. We need at least a couple parent volunteers to make this endeavor possible. If you are interested in co-leading this work with me, please reach out via email.
On Monday of this week, EMS instrumental music students will be playing for our 4th and 5th graders. We also have the district level Battle of the Books competition on Wednesday after school. Best of luck to our hardworking participants and a big thank you to Mrs. Mihalik for making this opportunity possible for our students.
Just in case you missed the exciting news I shared last week, Evergreen Parks and Rec and Jeffco Open Space are beginning work on a new parking area and developing grass fields at Wilmot! There is a picture of the project if you scroll down in the Wilmot Weekly. The first phase of the plan is to create parking where the current upper grass field is located. At some point over the next few weeks, they will block off the softball fields and put rock down on the upper field to create parking. They also plan to level and put rock down in the garden lot to minimize the mud. Once the parking is established, they will begin work on installing grass on the current softball fields. I am so excited about the prospect of having grass for our kids to play on at recess instead of dirt and having additional field space for youth sports in our community!
Thank you for being a part of the Wilmot Wildcats family! I look forward to seeing you at school this week!

Do you plan to volunteer at Wilmot, chaperone one of our filed trips, and/or be a guest reader? Please take a moment to fill out the Jeffco Person of Interest and Disclosure forms below. Forms and the $17.50 payment can be returned to Mrs. Allen in the main office.
Our middle school colleagues, who will be taking our current class of 5th graders to Outdoor Lab, need your help to win $1,000 from the Outdoor Lab Foundation. If our articulation area can add 24 of people to the Lab Card Program, the sixth-grade teachers will be entered to win one of five $1,000 prizes to be used for next year’s Outdoor Lab trip.
The Lab Card Program supports tuition assistance to ensure every sixth-grade student, regardless of financial capacity, can attend Outdoor Lab. To join the program, you simply need to link your King Sooper’s shopper’s card to the Outdoor Lab Foundation through the King Soopers Community Rewards Program. Visit the Foundation's website to find instructions. It takes about 3 minutes.
Once enrolled, any purchase moving forward with your Shopper’s Card will allocate a portion of King Soopers’s annual donation to the Outdoor Lab Foundation. The more people participating on behalf of the Outdoor Lab Foundation, the more money they can provide in tuition assistance to our students.
This is not only important for our families so that they can offset or eliminate a financial burden, but it is also important to your colleagues. This money can be used for various purposes such as booking engaging evening presenters for the students, paying for a sub day for lead teacher Outdoor Lab planning, buying supplies, etc.
Please take a few minutes to enroll yourself in the Lab Card Program and spread the word!
Evergreen Parks and Rec is collaborating with Jeffco Open Space to change the fields behind Wilmot. The work is slated to be completed before the start of school in the fall. It will be wonderful for our kids to play on grass during recess and to have additional space for youth sports in the Evergreen community!
Due to Jefferson County experiencing an uptick in Norovirus and GI illnesses, we are sharing our "How sick is too sick" guidelines with our community. Please see the link below.
Per Colorado Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009-2, schools and child cares are required to directly distribute the Annual Immunization Compliance Parent Letter to the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of every enrolled student. We must distribute one letter for K-5 and one for Preschool. Please find both letters linked below.
Round 2 of Open Enrollment for the 25-26 school year opened Thursday, January 23rd. Initial Round 1 lottery results were sent to families last week. Please reach out to the main office with any questions you have about enrollment for next year.
Visit www.enrolljeffco.org to let us know that you’re coming back for the 2025-26 school year. The earlier we know, the easier it is for the district to provide our school with all the tools and resources we need to provide a thriving experience for our students.
