In Visual Art, programmes are structured to allow for individualised learning based on skill, ability and interests. Students will learn technical skills, creativity and art appreciation. They will work collaboratively, sharing ideas and critiquing work.
Working in the Arts promotes student motivation and requires self-discipline and the confidence to succeed. Students will learn problem solving and critical thinking skills that are relevant to the wider world. These and other important habits stay with students and help them succeed in other areas of school, life and future careers.
In all Visual Arts subjects, student work is integrated across both internal and external assessments throughout the year. Individual pieces often contribute to multiple Achievement Standards. The external Achievement Standard is assessed through a portfolio that is developed over the course of the year, incorporating work that also meets the requirements of internal Achievement Standards.
