Course description:
Design & Visual Communication explores a student’s ability and skills through their communication of design ideas that visually convey the candidate’s design thinking in response to a design brief.
Course of study:
Product and architectural design.
Freehand sketching – using tone, colour, texture and balance.
Produce instrumental drawings to communicate your own design ideas.
Develop a product through graphics practice.
Learn to use visual communication techniques to present your own ideas.
Assessment:
Assessment will be in the form of a portfolio of evidence selected from a range of Design & Visual Communication Achievement Standards. A portfolio is an organised collection of evidence that communicates the candidate’s knowledge and understanding relevant to Design & Visual Communication.
Internal – up to 16 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 3 credits at NCEA Level 2.

Entry criteria:
Level 1 Design & Visual Communication or Art would be an advantage, or at the discretion of the TIC Design & Visual Communication, in consultation with your Dean.
Future pathways:
This course will develop through to Level 3 NCEA Design & Visual Communication. Future career pathways that Design & Visual Communication leads into are design architecture and landscape design, product design and engineering, and technology-based careers to name a few.
